1994 Discovery 300tdi auto with edc.
Originally the engine overheated going up a long steep hill, spewing coolant out of the header tank cap.It would run after cooling down, but sounded like it was only on 3 cylinders.Initially I thought head gasket or cracked block,as it has had a new head on a second hand block.(the original engine overheated big style and cooked the pistons/bores etc..)
Since the build,it had done 300+ trouble free miles.
The head has been taken off again and there was no water noticable in the bores and the head and gasket looked ok.When the injectors were taken out,1,2+3 were dry and sooty, but no.4 was wet. Also, the bore on no.4 is scored.Could this cause lack of compression, not firing properly and the white smoke? The thermostat also looks u/s.
I'm clutching at straws at the moment as when we put it all back together with new head gasket,it still runs the same. All the injectors are getting diesel ok,but no.4 is definitaly at fault
