Hi I’m Rob from Northants. Just bought a 2002 Freelander 1.8, I know bad move thought I’d just say hello.

Hi Rob from Northants.

I'm Nigel from Hayling island, how do you do?

Nothing wrong with a 1.8 K series engine in a hippo, perfect family car with a bit of out of the box off road ability.

Just make sure you got AA membership and a new head to go on it and you'll be golden.

Hi dieseldog69,
The head gasket, waterpump, and belts have all been replaced but I have a coolant leak from where the thermostat sits in the steel tube at rear of engine. Just fitted a new thermostat housing thinking it was that, that was leaking, still losing fluid though, through the joint between steel pipe and thermostat housing. Apart from the O ring on the housing itself, should there be another O ring inside the steel tube as well.

No idea, not my area of expertise.

I might suggest heading down to the Freelander forum and asking for help there, them fellas know them inside and out.

Welcome to the forum.

There's no such thing as a bad Freelander. There are some Freelanders that need more hugs than others to get them going again.

Always good to see another Freelander owner joining. Give the Freelander a hug from me.

Thanks very much for the welcome Hippo. I’m in the process of sorting out a leaking coolant pipe at the mo so will reserve judgement on whether this is a good or bad for the mo haha
