Hi, new on this sight. Recently bought a 1990 defender county tdi. Was advised to turn the key until the choke light comes on then wait 25secs to start the vehicle. Having tried this, it seems to be true. Can anyone give me any clues as to why? Thanks very much.

Welcome to the forum, doing this allows the glow plugs to warm the cylinders giving better combustion than with a cold engine although that said in this weather my 300tdi starts every morning (this morning at 3:20 am) without the need for glow plugs

Any of you lecky bods know a way forward on this one. 1990 defender failed mot due to hazards not working, indicators work but as soon as I try to put hazards on, indicators fail and no hazards. Should I just change the Hazard switch?

Just found another potentially terrible snag. The cable that goes through the bulkhead to open vents has some how melted its way INTO the fuel line which goes to the fuel filter. WTF! Can it be possible that the cable is somehow picking up current and heating up? You really have got to love the Landy!

As marmaduke said above, this is a known issue when earth straps fail - and can be a PITA as, once the handbrake cable gets hot, it is no longer strong enough to hold the handbrake on......
