Hello LandyZone,
Thanks for having me! I'm a Brit, living in Seattle but about to move back to London. I've never owned a Land Rover but am planning to get a Discovery 2 when I'm back. Always wanted one during 11 years I spent in Southern Africa but never quite managed it for various reasons. Not knowing much about Land Rovers AT ALL I'd love to get advice from the group on (1) what the best purchase route is likely to be (ebay, autotrader, private sellers, specialist 2nd hand dealers, etc) and (2) when I get round to going to test drive some, what are the important things to look out for and check to make sure I get a good vehicle (I've downloaded the buyers guide but the experience of users on this group will probably add a lot). I've read a lot about chassis rot being a particular problem on old discos.
Cheers

A point to raise. In the uk you will be hit with additional daily charges for older more polluting vehicles. This is done to put people oft driving them in large built-up area's such as london. There's a number of web sites where you can put in a uk registration number to see if and what charges apply. Find an eggsample vehicle on ebay or auto trader or google images. Use that plate as a guide. Different engines with be hit with different costs.

There's a buyers guide int disco section below.

Move back to the countryside instead. Get a Land Rover, drive it in Land Rover land. Enjoy a nicer way of life. Thank me later :D

I’d keep your eye on here and check out hippos links. Big thing now is rear end on d2s. I.e chassis rot. I wouldn’t buy anything dripping in under seal and I would be buying one with extensive service history. Take a torch and screwdriver!

Welcome.
Are you even allowed to drive a D2 in London these days?:eek::eek:
Not inner London. The ultra low emissions zone is extending to the south/north circulars from April 2021 so we can only drive an old disco outside of that. Fine for nearly all of what we need to do anyway
