Hi,

I'm Kat, obviously female and i'm from Suffolk. I am looking for advice on the do's and don'ts of the Range Rover, Freelander and Discovery.

I am looking to replace my current car with a vehicle that can tow and get me through the snow. I have horses aswell so it would be more appriopriate to have a decent car.

:welcome2: to landyzone

It depends on your budget as to what to buy, forget gaylanders they're rubbish at towing, driving in the snow and the doors fall off when they get wet.

Range rovers are good but don't buy a P38 unless you've got very deep pockets and you like talking to your mechanic every day.

Look around for one of the last 300tdi discovery's, about '98 '99 they can be had for reasonable money are easy enough to service yourself, parts are cheap and they'll do all the towing, offroad driving you want.

Thanks for the welcomes and the advice, i'm probably looking at a budget of up to £6k but the cheaper the better really.

I don't want to buy private as i have had my fingers burned recently and would prefer to buy from a garage even though they may take my eyeballs out.

:hysterically_laughi As long as it's only your eye balls !!! Have a look at some of the defenders as well....

:welcome2: welcome kat, we have a 1998 300tdi discovery great cars and not too dear to buy and maintain provided you take someone with you who knows these cars because they do tend to rot in some bloody akward places. if you go onto the auto trader/ exchange and mart / piston heads , or even landy zone sales you should find a good selection for your budget, good luck with your search. ron.

whereabouts in Suffolk are you ? there maybe someone local who can go look at a landy with you if you find one that looks good.

I'm in Ipswich.

What about the Td5's, i've heard pre 2002 they are not very good or is it the case with all motor's there is always a rotten one in a bunch of good ones.

I have a 2000 TD5 Discovery been blooming reliable mine is auto so it likes a drink lol
Parts if you shop around it's been resonable prices
keep it serviced and it will last.

As you say there are always bad examples out there but the same can be said of every car manufacter in the world you get 5 excellet motors no problem their entire life. cars 6,7,8,9 could be right pigs in and out of garages
