Newbie with a freelander (omg)

Hi everyone.
Glad to be a new member of the landyzone.
I'm Peter from Oldham, Lancs.
I recently purchased a freelander 1 1.8 petrol from a mate. Well he used to be!
Only kidding. I love the freelander but am unsure how good or bad the engine is.
I already have an issue.
I'm pretty sure you lot will be invaluable when i come need help.
