Hi guys,
I bought my first range rover last friday, a 2005 sport 4.4 v8.
It appears i have some problems with it i need to fix.....any advice would be great as im a little frustrated with it currenty and would love the chance to drive it.

-I have no handbrake what so ever? Either lost power or motor has had it.
fault codes are:
-U0122- lost communication with vehicles dynamics control module.
-c1a00- control module.
-u0155- lost communication with instrument control module.
-u2002 switch general electrical failure
-C1b00- steering amgle sensor (recalibrated this)
Suspension is showing up a fault to. Is anyone local to harlow that knows there way round these? Thank you in advance and any help appreciated.

hi

first welcome to the asylum, lol

Have a D3 myself and the suspension etc is virtually the same , know it can be frustrating at times as virtually had to rebuild mine , few questions if I may plse to try and establish of what’s possibly going on

what is the battery voltage with the engine off and then engine running
what code reader are u using plse
With the engine running , do u see a red light where the raise / lower lever is
Daft question but, When u reset the steering wheel angle sensor how did u do it plse
Have u checked the fuse for ur EPB

lastly , did u buy it from a garage , if so would call them and get them to resolve the issue

once again apologises for all the questions, they are indeed complicated beasts but by looking at errors step by step its alot easier , really need your own diagnostics and multimeter otherwise if u can’t do a lot of the work yourself u will need deep pockets

hope that helps a little

ps, plus so nice where you’ve said please within a new post , ur be surprised at some that don’t bother , it’s appreciated

Hi,
Thank you your reply. J havnt yet checked the voltage but fitted a new battery saturday as car had sat for 2 years.
Diagnostics was my brother inlaws snap on modis edge.
I checked the main fuse in the enging bay for the epb and looked fine. Im leaning towards loss of power in woring possibly? I have a multimeter at home, just need to get the car back there.
Steering wheel angle sensor wasn one on the diagnostics. If you mean red light by the hand brake lever then no
Thank you again and all help greatly appreciated.

ur so welcome and thks for the replies

alas with it being sat for a couple of years damp may have got inside the modules, corrosion inside the connectors etc

ref steering wheel angle sensor will need diagnostics to reset that and one that will be able to reset / calibrate the suspension etc

Assume ur not going to attempt starting it before a full service is done , including brake fluid , diffs , etc personally would also get it taken home on a flatbed , also wouldn’t hurt to drain the old petrol out unless you’ve already done that

ref ur new battery , would give that a good overnight charge , only for the purpose of opening the doors , alarm etc

plus passengers side, have a look under the carpet in the still area where ur find a big wiring loom , plse see if there’s any water

Sounds like you’ve got a project and a half on ur hands but doable as we can to through it in stages

hope that helps

Thanks again,
Its hap 20L of v power in it and is running, fine engine and gearbox wise.
-steering angle sensor has been reset already.
-oil looks fresh and clean as a whistle.
As is air filter but worth a service to be sure.
-check carpet in passenger footwell? What wiring is here ? (For which potential problem?) Car doesnt smell damp at all and is a non sunroof model too incase pf sunroof drainage leak?
Thank you again, much appreciated, i really want to get to the bottom of this without it being a bottomless pit and before the mrs kills me for wasting money

no problem and very happy to help , plus it’s extremely nice of the appreciation , thk u

Ah I see, thought the steering wheel angle sensor wasn’t on the diagnostic machine so couldn’t reset it ,, apologises as I miss understood

The large loom on the passenger side runs some wires to the back of the vehicle , along with some connections that can stop the central locking from working , great u haven’t got a sunroof as indeed water will normally fill up in that sill causing other intermittent errors

alas they can be money pits but if u can do the work urself will save a lot of money , once u get it home plse let us know and we can then start going through the errors , including what modules we may need to check plus there locations

have u thought about how ur going to get it home and is it far please , as mentioned would be very tempted to put it on a flat bed, good the oil is clear and did it come with any service history etc plse , only reasoned i mentioned it was for peace of mind, including brake fluid, plus gearbox isn’t sealed for life as specified , may i ask what the mileage is and if it’s an auto plse

enclosed a picture showing the raise / lower lever for the suspension , when that’s pressed a light should appear , if not maybe the fuse has gone or suspension system has been deactivated

happy to help and once u get it back home plse give us a shout so we can go through each system , also if u get any chance any piccies plse of the RRS as we always like pics , lol

funny enough I keep looking at a petrol V8 , hopefully one day

plse don’t think I’m trying to teach u how to suck eggs but would seriously concern me even driving it any distance,, as it’s been sitting for a couple of years there could be all sort of issues , brakes , tyres etc etc

also if u happened to get pulled over by the police and if they found problems , leading onto fines, points etc , would just hate for something to happen that’s all

No probs and more than happy to help , thks for the pics and would be brilliant if u was able to take some more of the underneath if u can plse

look forward to see what u find

Plus forgot to say , looks really nice in black and think they come up well when cleaned and polished, sometimes feel they can be ruined when people fit low profile tyres

also when u look underneath check ur sills for any rust , as the steps can sometimes become water traps , personally I fitted some rock sliders on mine, must admit think the RRS interior is nicer than the D3 , plus if u wasn’t aware there is a spare wheel anti theft plate u can buy, , otherwise they simply cut the spare wheel winch cable

picture of mine and those sliders

I was very close to buying a discovery but fell through. Just had car up in the air and had a look over it, chassis looks solid but needs a clean, steps look cruddy. I dont have a spare wheel as has lpg fitted. Interior is lovely and what pushed me towards buying it.

There the last of the proper shape motors before they went all rounded and hard to distinguish model:(
i like the look but dont like the complexity

plus 1 , must confess has been a steep learning curve with fault finding , feel though when buying a D3/4 buying a decent code reader , multimeter along with a half decent set of tools are a must , unless of course have very deep pockets to cover garage costs

if I had the money would buy a 5 litre supercharged D4 seeing i do such low mileage , have looked at FFRR but the expensive active dampering system puts me off , active bars are roughly £700 each , plus of course the even more complicated electronics in the newer 2011 as they have the ZF 8 x speed , lastly insurance which I think is group 50

at the end of the day regardless of the amount of work I’ve put into the D3 its still my favourite landy so far , keep pondering about another one but virtually torn this thing apart , chassis is 100% solid and fully treated , bodywork in excellent condition , hopefully one day I’ll be able to step up again into a V8 D4

apologises I’m waffling as per usual, lol
