Hi, I have a 'T' reg TD5 and have been finding it difficult to get an answer to my problem from garages, including Land Rover!!
The problem is this; I have discovered that diesel is getting into the oil somehow. Every 3 or 4 days I would have to drop all the oil, which by then would be mostly diesel, and then replace the oil. Twice the sump filled up enough to set the turbo off, meaning that the vehicle would accelerate and the only way to stop the engine would be to stall it before it blew up!!
The usual reason apparently, is the injector seals leaking but I've had it into a garage to have them checked, only to be told that the seals are fine. Someone suggested that the head has fuel channels running through it and that there may be a crack somewhere allowing the diesel to leak into the oil.
I know nothing about engines, so I'm hoping that someone here may have come across this problem or have possible cause/solutions. Any and all advice is gratefully appreciated, as I need to try to get it fixed before the 18th Feb, as my Jeep is costing a fortune in fuel traveling to and from work and the MOT runs out then (it'll also cost alot to get through it's next MOT.... money I'd much rather spend getting my lovely TD5 back on the road).

sounds like you need to find another garage - if the injector seals really are good then suggest having the head pressure tested as there's likely to be a crack in it

It could well be the head gasket that has gone. I had a 300TDI that took off like a rocket as I was driving along a straight section of road. It had put a load of diesel into the sump as a result of the head gasket blowing. I replaced the gasket and all was then fine. i ran it for another four years without any problem.

Hey guy's, thanks for the quick response, looks like I'll be buying a replacement head, that'll hopefully sort it. Anybody got one for sale, or point me in the direction of a reasonably priced one please?!!
