Ah! I knew this site would be the place to get the info I needed! Thanks All - interesting reading.

Have learned some interesting things against the FG - things I didn't know and she doesn't know (yet!).

For the Landy -

Fun (obviously). Fun for the kids and when you drive 400 miles each way to visit the in-laws if it's not fun for the kids then it's not fun for anyone!

Loading/storage (again obvious) - FG has no storage when all seats are up.

Veg oil - she'll like that one - may not be practical but she'll like the idea.

Got lots of narrow lanes round here - flood regularly.

Comparing the LRO cameraderie/help/support to bike riders - great! She'll love that one.

I now have powerful practical and emotional arguments. I know she's not anti-Landy (would quite like one, in fact) but she just believes FG more practical. I'm not so sure - got to consider the possible/probable maintenance/repair costs and all those gizmos to go wrong in FG!!!! Also got to consider how many years use we'd get out of any veh before we have to replace it.

Wish me luck!

Thought of another. In a 110 you can fling the kids in the boot. That's a good 4 feet from the front so you can't hear them whining. Not that they will be whining as they will probably be fighting for the the right to sit in the centre front seat.

The other alternative is to keep the Focus (or downsize from that...can you? ) and get yourself an older Landy, then she can run around to the shops and things in the skateboard, and when everyone and the kitchen sink need to be transported, use the Landy. This way you can go "playing" without taking the Dragon, and she's still got transport as well.

Hi All!

Thanks for all the helpful comments. We've had a talk about everything and thanks to your info and opinions (and my modest negotiating skills, cough, cough!) the FG is starting to look less of 'rosy' proposition! Still a long way to go but 1 step at a time...

Unlucky you ,my missus was the opposite we somehow ended up with a renault espace which was a good car apart from the fact that it had no boot would get stuck in a puddle ,depreciated faster than the price of a used condom and parts cost a fortune:D the old girl hated that car and hankered for another landy from day one (as long as it wasnt a bloody freelander),so just make her happy and buy 3 like i did:p

cheers warren

Tell her that like bikes, Land Rover drivers have a nod or a wave to each other every now and then. Where's the ford galaxy nod huh?

Sorry folks, I have neglected you for a while but there has been much going on! Much discussion and a little 'jiggling' of finances and priorities...

This argument carried a great deal of weight!!!!!!

Anyhoo... there is some GOOD news and some BAD news!

The GOOD news - I CAN HAVE A LANDY, I CAN HAN HAVE A LANDY, I CAN HAVE A LANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (We'll also keep the Focus for now... but who cares?)

The BAD news - 'my' Landy has been sold!

So now I'm on the hunt for another 110 (that I can afford). Wish me luck!
