Hi guys

As it says im new here.
Im currentyl looking for a l322 4.4 or 4.2 if the right one presents itself.

I have had a bmw n62 4.4 before so im aware of the sieve like tendencies.
My question for land rover did bmw uses hardened valve stem seals? Or were they just the same they used in their own vehicles?

Besides that any tips and trick on buying would be greatly appreciated

:)

Better to get the Jaguar powered L322 the 4.2! it also gets the pretty bullet proof ZF6hp26 box

And while i've rebuilt an M62 i'm not too much of a fan and the ZF5hp24 tranny is a bit shít too. ;)

I meant to say 4.2sc.
The zf6hp26 was paired with my 4.4 e60. Im not sure if its something to do with the torque converter or just the power delivery. But e60 owners have forever complained about zf gearboxes. They seem toblike s******g themselves. Luckily a mate is pretty much the bible of zf servicing.

Im leaning towards the 4.2sc.
Had my bimmer 2 years and only scraped 11k so not too worried about thirsty engines. Just worried about leaky one! Which is why im cautious of the 4.4

The biggest issue with the 6hp26 is a lack of servicing and the wrong fluid used when serviced..

Most people use Dex 3 which will destroy it..

Only ZF Lifeguard 6 is to be used and changed every 60k!

With a torque limit of 600nm and many stretching that to 700nm it is a pretty strong unit!

Tell me about. The amount of people that want to buy cheap service kits are unreal.
A biggy for me is that the zf oil change is done at the correct temp and alway...i mean alway have a new mechatronic sleave.
Boshing the sump/filter on too tight is another biggy making it prone to leaking.

Any ideas on the valve stem seals being hardened on landrovers. Its something i think i heard. Its a costly time consuming job havimg them done if not.

Yes the Oil change is a right pain all 21 t27 torx bolts tend to strip!

luckily the proper ZF kit comes with some improved T45 bolts!

And you need an IR thermometer!

The Jaguar V8 is a very strong unit valve issues are seldom heard, the valve seats are sensitive to LPG but thats it! ;)

Actually the AJV8 is brilliant. ;)

Welcome. Why not pop over to the Range Rover section, apart from our 'enry, there are loads of threads on what to look for, what to avoid, etc. You could lose yourself for a couple of days , making lists on what to check when looking one over :D
