newbie hello and a few q`s!

hi i recently bought a series 111 109 ffr 24v. lhd. she has started pulling to the left under breaking. this only occurs when breaking lightly. when i press hard this goes away. also is it supposed to get so hot? i dont mean the oil/ water i mean all of her. it is stripped out and the exhaust goes under the seat just next to the petrol tank! (a little worrying) and finally the cold start light is on constantly? i do get a whiff of petrol now and again. i get about 15mpg combined. i am driving her to spain when i have saved up enough for the gas!!

The pulling is probably because one side has a smaller distance between the shoe and drum so it hits first, and as you apply more pressure the other one engages making it even out. You can adjust the distace easy enough. Turn the adjuster till you cant move the wheel by hand (oops, you'd better jack it up first!) then back it off until you can just move the wheel then a bit extra for clearance.
The cold start light could just be a nackered switch. If you look on the cable for the cold start just into the engine bay near the bulkhead there should be a black box with a wire to its just a flat piece of metal that moves as a collar pushes it up as you pull the cable causing a circuit to break/form, mine fell off cos the clips were broken.

As above for the breaks but i back it off two clicks (If your snails arnt to warn) but watch out on a 109 there are two ajuster snails on front breaks and you have to do each one at a time.
