Newbie from glasgow

Morning all!

I'm from Glasgow and have always liked the look of the discovery

Love how big it is compared to previous cars (mgs, capri) but I have no idea about them at all

Where is the best place to look to see the various versions, engine sizes (pros and cons), things to look out for like belt changes etc, trim levels?
All i know so far Is that I definitely want one with a leather interior and that I want an older style

I'm not going to be using it a lot, primarily for taking my son to and from child care and going the 10 min trip to the gym, shops etc.

Ideally I am wanting to spend as little over 1k as possible so I know I am not going to get an absolute show car, but from the ones I have seen online I think it should be doable. I take it they are so cheap because of the way the world is going against "big, gas guzzling emissions emitting beasts" yeah!?

At that price range probably best get yourself along to an auction - strange bargains can be had in such places, as long as you are not the type to get carried away!
However...be warned...Discos (and land rovers in general) are expensive to run, expensive to maintain, highly addictive...and fun! Proceed at your own risk...you have been warned!

I know, I would go up to 1500 but am I naive in thinking I would get one for that?

Having looked on Ebay and gumtree it looks doable?

I just don't have A clue where to start when it comes to mk1 or 2 and the pros and cons of the various engines - anywhere I can go to have a research?

There is always a chance to get one for that price just you may negotiate and haggle as much as you can for that price and welcome to the forum!!

The reason he is say that is because as a future Land Rover owner you will become a mechanic/welder on these cars. These Rovers will make you a mechanic out of you quick.

The Gumtree link it to a disco 2 on a 53 plate. Td5 engine with 141k miles on the clock.

Forget that one mate, its had mot advisory's for corrosion on the rear chassis since 2016 id bet a years wages on it that
it will need welding soon, if it was that good a motor they would keep it & drive it to Greece I know I would.
They are trying to sell it before the mot runs out....

The ad does say the welding has been done, to be fair. I'd be looking for receipts from the welder.
I'm not far away, and I would look at a vehicle I was buying on my own, but I wouldn't stick my neck out and do the same for someone else, especially one with more equipment than I'm used to. But if you can get someone who knows the vehicles well to check it, it might be worth a look. The AA / RAC provide an inspection service, at a cost, or you could ask a Land Rover specialist to do an inspection.

I missed the part where the advert said the welding has been done (ooppps) its worth a look then
if it was local'ish to me I wouldn't mind looking at it but the AA & RAC reports are well worth the money..
