Hello Everyone
I’m a new Discovery owner, in fact my first Land Rover or 4X4 for that matter. After years of nearly buying but not, I’ve taken the plunge and got myself a 2000 V8i auto ES with 100k on the clock, service history up to 74k, 4 month MOT and private plate and 6 months road tax. At what I think is a bargain price of just over £2k, it does have a couple of problems which might make it a bit of a gamble but my thinking is I got it cheap that if I need to spend up to 2k then I’ve still got it at about the right price but with the peace of mind that I know how and when everything was done, if you see my reasoning. The body and interior are in very good condition with all the bells and whistles and could easily pass for a lot lower mileage vehicle. It drives well apart from the problems below and has I had to travel 200 mile to buy it I took a leap of faith and drove it 240 mile up the motorway without any problem
For starters it’s booked in for a service and fresh MOT next week neither is due but as I say for my piece of mind it’s worth the £200, and hopefully they will highlight any problems that I have missed of better still there will be no other problems
As for the problems, so far I’ve noticed
1. When I bought it, it did have the “three Amigos” but I have had this checked out at the local Landy independent and they cleared them and tell me there is no fault showing this was about 200 mile ago so fingers crossed it was just a one off
2. It does seem to have a heavy gear change and feels a bit like a slipping manual clutch at times, but as a starting point I will get the gear oil changed at the same time as the service next week
3. Neither electric sunroofs work, this isn’t anything I will spend big money on as the aircon is ice cold, but it would be nice to have them working, already checked the fuse
By big worries are obviously the gear box and the “three Amigos” so any advice/ideas would be great, hopefully it’s not a replacement box!!
I know I could have probably got a similar vehicle with less or no faults for about £4K but where’s the fun in that (I hope I still fell this way in a couple of weeks).
Then I will start looking at LPG, again this is all new to me so ideas on systems and recommended installers please
I have used this type of forum with most of my previous motors and always found them a great source of free knowledge, as well as helping others when and where I can so no doubt I will become a regular on here
Regards
Stuart

Hi and :welcome2:,I also have just got my first disco 2 v8.
Mine came with a Prins multi point lpg system already fitted and have got to say it is superb absolutly seemless change over from petrol to gas.
It was fitted by Autogas Yorkshire and it looks like a really good install very neat under bonnet.
I've heard some real horror story's so be careful and get some word of mouth reccomendations if poss.
