Hi everyone! This is my first post as I'm about to enter the world that is Defender ownership! To be brief; I've got my sights on a 59 plate Defender 90 2.4 Hardtop with less than 10k miles on it. Private sale.
I've messed around with cars all my life but have never owned something like this. Are there any major problems with this 2.4 engine or gearbox that I should be looking out for?
What can I realistically hope to get to the gallon from one of these around town and on a run?
I'm a member of various different car forums and I'm more than aware that you tend to only hear about the things that go wrong with any car but this is a big outlay for me and I don't want to make a mistake. Haven't viewed the Defender yet but it's pretty much as new in the pics, in Cotswold Grey.
I would also be looking for a few add-ons like side steps and some rear mud flaps as the current owner seems to have removed the rear ones for some reason(?). So would also be grateful if someone could point me in the direction of the staple reliable supplier of such things (I'm guessing that you guys don't go to Land Rover for such things...?)
Any help and advice would be very welcome!
