Evening all, I'm the former owner of a Series IIa LWB, many moons ago, I've now talked the wife into switching one of our Saabs for a Discovery*. Which feels a bit like chopping one of the family Labradors in for a pony, but one of them is nearing being put down anyway, so the time has come. Since owning my Series II, I've also driven a Wolf around parts of the Middle East, which was jolly good fun for most of the time I wasn't being shot at, mortared or avoiding roadside bombs.
I'm keen to get us a Disco' series II as they fit into the budget**, drive slightly nicer than the series I at least when they're on air and ACE, and have forward facing dickie seats - which is important with 2 smallish kids and the possibility of an au pair in the near future (and of course the symmetry of having had two Series IIs would amuse me).
So, I'll be browsing the Discovery forums, keeping an eye on the for sale forum and generally sticking my nose in from time to time.
*Despite being a country girl and growing up with 'Rovers in the family, when I met her she was adamant that no one needed a car with an engine bigger than 1000cc so even getting her into a Saab was a coup, talking her into us buying a Discovery is a huge win.:clap2:
**I have a personal aversion to loans or spending more than a month's take home on a car. Loads of my mates have new cars, some on leases. Most of them aren't as reliable as you'd hope, they're tied into dealer servicing (and I like to wield the spanners myself sometimes), and of course they spend more in two month's depreciation than I do on my whole car. Some of my best and most reliable cars have been the Saabs, which I paid buttons for.
