Hi all,

I wonder if someone might know the answer to this - we're having problems with the carburettor on a Series One Landy. Neither of us know anything about Solex carbs and would be grateful of your input.

The car won't fire with the air cleaner connected and with this disconnected when the engine is cranked we can see petrol bubbling up inside on the engine side of the carb... Choke setting makes no difference, it seems like the float valve (if Solex units have such a thing!) is not regulating the flow of fuel??

There is a video of the problem here... and here is a photo of the old girl! :)

Thanks in advance

Welcome
Nice S1. Now I think early motor with wrong door tops on?
As for carb are you still using the old solex fuel pump?

Looking at the amount of fuel coming out there the pump need a pressure regulator, unless the pump fitted is the old SU type it will need one.

Good news! After a little online research we took the top of the Solex off, cleaned the bowl out and saw how the float valve operated. A little judicious bending to make the valve close a tiny amount earlier did the trick. ;)

This is the fuel pump we have - it's over enthusiasm has now been cured by the carburettor valve and it is no longer running flat out all the time!

Thanks for all the replies and help - thanks everyone! :)
