Hi there, I recently bought a 1982 swb series 3. It's runs fine, but really think it will need a lot of work to get it through it's next mot. If anybody has any advice on where to start an what to check first, please help! Also can anybody recomend where I can get the following (bearing in mind I haven't got the biggest of budgets?):

A canvas hood and hoop set (It has a hard top, but was originally a soft top I'm told)
A roll bar
Seat belts (at the mo it has inertia seatbelts that attach to the roof from the bulkhead, but if i wanted to make it soft top where do they attach to?)

Thank you.

Hi, chassis and bulkhead are the bits that rust badly so best to check them out thouroughly first. (i hope you are handy with a welder)
As for the hood and hoops try ebay, exmoor trim, all wheel trim, craddocks etc.

If you're fitting a Roll Bar, attach the top seat belt mounting to that, otherwise it's a case of the belt coming straight over your shoulder from the centre bulkhead to the buckle, not very comfortable or safe.

had that on my exRAF thing. if you decide to do this, try not to have an accident. your neck may be sore afterwards.

I'm actively trying to pin down the origin of the support in the photos bellow, and it's what you need. They're from a 90, but I'm sure they could be adapted to a Series.

Anyone know where these come from ? Are they standard in the Defender 90s ?
