Hi folks. I am new to this so probably have a load of stupid questions that have probably been asked before. Just wanted to say hi.

Hi,
Merry Xmas, and welcome to the looneyzone.

Go on, tell us what you got?

Cheers
Hi and a merry Xmas to you too and thanks for the welcome. I have started of easy and have got myself a Freelander 2. I am pretty sure that someone will say that is not a real Landy :) but someone has to buy them

Welcome to LZ. :)

Freelander 2 are a pretty good motor.

Hi and thanks. It is not so bad. I had a lot of "advice" when I was purchasing my first LR and was told to steer clear of the Disco because it was a money pit. So I took the safe route, purchased a Freelander 2 and decided to join this forum to learn more about the rest of the LR range from people who own them and make up my mind for my next purchase from what I learn here

I wouldn't say Discos are a money pit if you can do your own work, and are good at sourcing parts. Same with other older models.
Freelander 2 are a slightly more modern design and tech than a lot of the older stuff, and most will have run less miles.

Exactly. I was pretty sure that I would get a different perception to the "advice" I received.
I was going to buy a Jeep Wrangler, but after the cardiac arrest experienced at the road tax, the Freelander 2 looked really good.
What are you driving?

Hahaha, didn't expect that. Nice. :)

I like it! :) I have a car as well, a diesel Mondeo. I drive it as little as I can, the roads in the South are a nightmare these days.

Had quite a few Landrovers before. Various Series, a Ninety, V8 Disco. And driven and worked on lots of others.

Welcome to the mad house. Get ready to get your arse ripped by some. So with some rhino skin, a tube of lube in your back pocket, you might survive.
And merry christmas

Sounds like you have well rounded knowledge and experience on LR's. I am guessing that Landyzone is an excellent resource for assistance in upgrading vehicles?

Hahaha. Hi Thor and thanks for the welcome. I am sure someone will have a go, but no problem, I will take the bashing with a smile and not cry in the corner ;)

Excellent resource in any number of ways.

"Upgrade", is a relative term. Personally, I think standard is pretty good, the engineers that design vehicles usually know what they are doing.
I would certainly drive the vehicle for at least a year, and get to know it's abilities, before even thinking about modifying it.

No serious upgrades at this point. I just want to make the vehicle a bit more user friendly at this stage. I was horrified how little storage space is in the FL2, so first job is to try and find a way to get the spare wheel on the outside so that O can make use of the spare wheel well

Traditionally, Land Rovers don't really do storage space. If you want that, get a Toyota.
