Hi
I have just bought a range rover 4ltr SE lpg conversion (which was serviced at christmas) today. Its the first time owning one and I have a few questions as it has a few bits wrong with it.
  1. Central locking: I press the lock button on the key phobe and it locks all the doors apart from the fron 2 the latches stay up. Anyone know what the problem could be?
  2. I keep hearing a sound from the front left side. It sounds like a over drive noise if you know what I mean. I am unsure what it is I did think it was the compresser but it has just had a new one fitted. The noise seems to come on for about 10-20secs then goes of then comes on. Anyone ever experiance anything like this or know what the problem is?
  3. And a little problem, it has a blackpunt stereo in so not original and it keeps loosing radio signal all the time. Any idea how to solve that.

Always a good idea to put your location in your profile - always the possibility of other members living nearby and being able to help.
Also a good idea to put what year your Rangie is as many bits changed during its life, especially around 1999.
1. Central locking could be the motors - I have one gone on mine at the moment.
2. The noise is the air compressor. Coming on and off is normal. If it seems to run all the time, you have a problem.
3. Sounds like a knackered radio. Maybe look for an original replacement on fleabay.
4. Get a copy of Rave, either by downloading it from the green oval website or by buying a Range Rover Workshop Manual On CD from fleabay - probably the easiest at 2 or 3 quid.

Thank you Derek Ward I will look into it.

Compresser seems to go on and off. It should be fine as there was a new one fitted not so long ago.
Also I have noticed when going up hills the auto gear change aint smooth through the changes. Is there anything that can be done, any way of altering the setup ?

Check the auto box fluid level. Are you running on Sport mode or normal?

As an aside is the harshness when you are running on petrol or while on lpg?

Hi, it happens ever on lpg or petrol. I tested it today and it runs smoother in sport mode than manual. I only notice it in the fist few gears (possible 1st-2nd or 2nd-3rd). It has had the transmission fluid change a few months ago.
 
Still maybe worth checking the level as it will have settled and worked it's way through the system. Method: engine running, brake on, take the gearlever from P to 1, back to P again and do this twice, slowly enough for it to be in gear rather than zipping it back and forward, leave it in P and with the engine still running, pull the dipstick out (the one closer to the windscreen - not the engine oil one) wipe, replace, pull out again and take the reading. If it's low add ATF - not ordinary oil. It's a slow fill down the dipstick hole!
 
Hello I don`t really know too much regarding your range rover It`s just when I got mine the seller told me since he had the rear windows tinted the reception on MW was pretty poor (I only listen to radio 2 which is FM and works a treat when I`m on my own rest of the time my lad has the cd on) Just a thought if yours works sometime ,are the windows tinted ?
 
There is a known fault with something to do with different frequencies waking up the cars computers and draining the battery. The easy fix is to disconnect a receiver under the side parcel shelf in the boot. Maybe someone has done this im sure ive read on here somewhere that this was linked to the radio.
Sorry for being a little vauge on this but im sure if you do a search on the site it will explain it a little more.

This is for the central locking/alarm. It's located on the offside. Range Rovers sometimes have two aerials but only for FM - one in each side window. The nearside window is the one that does both FM & AM. Never heard of the Tint affecting reception before but it's possible if there's anything metallic in there.
 
Cheers for the advise I will have a look and see what I come up with and hopefully will fix it.
