Hi, I pick up my new Landy in a few days, what things do people consider I should start doing to it in order to preserve its longevity etc.

First on my list is to waxoyl the chassis etc...
Any specfic things i need to be aware of that tend to seize etc:)

(def is five years old)
 
:welcome2: I have never waxoyled a full chassis but I do know that if spraying on it needs to be very warm... regular service and change ALL your oils and poss fluids now unless you are certain they have just been done.

I have been saving for about ten years to buy one of these puppies!!

I just got my first defender last year and the dealer waxoyled it as part of the deal. Make sure the prop shafts are greased properly - push a lot of new grease through (Lithium type) to clean out any old stuff and then check your wheel bearings - mine have now been changed, ok when I got it, but 3k miles and some wading later (at 95k miles on the clock) they have started to fail. Not a major problem unless you can't get the front drive flange off, but easily done in 1.5 to 2 hours if you can shift it. Check the rear cross member too and make sure it is sound and protected. There will be more useful info to follow, from others with more knowledge than me, the **** taking starts later. By the way, if you do change wheel bearings, it's wise to go for genuine parts, I understand they last a lot longer than pattern bits - Timken are OEM
 
Change those sh*t Grabber TR tyres first chance you get - bl00dy awful. until you chang'em you'll never know what the vehicle really handles like. Wish i'd changed mine rather than waiting 30k miles to realise how crap they are.

I found the General Grabber TR tyres suprisingly good on my old 90. I bought 5 new ones (£65 each) when I first got it. They are/where factory fit by LR and reasonable alrounders rated for snow, mud and normal road use. Depends what you use them for... may not look the most rugged ion fact they look very timid but they performed without fault in the snow last winter. They will stop quickly on wet tamac (very important) Sure, better tyres on the market but somehow I dont think young Stoker will be wanting to rag to death on Pay and Play a very nice Landy like the one he has..... or will he??
Those tyres did get me through the mud run 3 times at Newark last year so they are not that bad...:)

them tyres are excellent on the road and in the snow

As far as changing the tyres, well that will have to wait till there are more coffers available i am now skinted out but at least its for a good cause!

Point taken on board about extra security, thanks.
As far as off roading goes, of course otherwise why bother - gently at first though im still a virgin!:cool:
