New springs n shockers

hi all
I'm fitting some new springs and shocks next weekend to my 110hardtop,problems I should try to avoid when doing them?
Any tips would be great,I've changed springs many years ago on old bangers ive owned but not done a defender.
I've gone for standard springs,I've no idea what springs are on it now but they're as hard as hell !!!

You are doing the right thing going for standard springs,yours is fitted with heavy duty types which unless the vehicle is well loaded will be hard as hell
Have some front turret retaining rings ready as the ones fitted will likley shear a bolt or two on removal,check turrets are ok before you start as well.
Standard shocks ar fine for normal use.

Fronts are pretty handy make sure you have axel stands on hand. Also some decent spanners for the shock bolt located on the front axel, not much room to work at that one. I would advise you to ac90 all the bolt on the week leading up to the work being done.
One thing I wish I had bought was front new front spring seats.

I find the ride really hard with the springs that are on it now,I get bounced around all over when going over anything other than a good flat road.

What shocks did you got for ? I went for Terrafirma

Just don’t be surprised what the tin worms have eaten on spring seats ect

Check the front turrets too, mine's off the road til I get time to change them, and the turrets are rusted through.
I've done one side - time saving tip: I used an air cut off tool to remove the shock & turret, no need to mess around with the spanners when you're not reusing any of the parts! Just mind you don't damage anything you're keeping!

I just bought the britpart shocks as funds are tight at the moment ?
Quite looking forward to doing the job now!! Scraped knuckles and all !!

get yourself a pair of these for removing the shocks makes things much easier does not damage the shock. I have used them when I have needed to replace the bushs and refitted the same shock.. Especially if they have been fitted for a while the nuts will not be easy to get off and will just turn the whole shock body.

I use a similar filter wrench that uses a nylon strap insted of chain,less chance of damage.
