One of my rear shocks is corroded and one of my fronts had a slight leak. MOT is coming up, so I need to replace them. It's a 90 200tdi which I use mainly on the road. It gets a little off road on our own fields when it is needed. We also have a terrible track which gives the suspension a pounding every time I go out.

Question is what shocks to I go for? There are some Armstrong ones on Paddocks for about a tenner a corner plus VAT. The local place has suggested some de Carbon gas ones at closer to £40 a corner.

Questions:

- any experience of the Armstrongs?
- will gas ones make much difference on the road?
- and recommendations for a tightish budget?
- whilst I'm in there, what else should I replace?

Luckily I know exactly what to do thanks to Treworgey.

The Armstrongs are fine. I had them on mine before I fitted the lift.
If you've got plenty of money, get Terra Firma or Old Man Emu.

terrafirma have just released a 5" shock and they also have remote reservoir units to prevent heat built up. fully adjustable too.

Tre, i find my std TF's a little bouncy when unloaded. just me?

I've recently put pro-comps on the rear of my classic along with heavy duty on road towing springs which are solid, you can jump on the towbar with practicly no movement so i can't see much chance for mine off road.

Yep. I have gone the Armstrong route. Shocks all round, two turret rings and splashed out on poly mounts. Total bill £57.84* inc VAT and delivery. That's what I love about land rovers.:D

(*compare that to a new set of spark plugs I had to buy for a Mazda RX-8 last year - £177 from stealer):(

monroe gas shocks are cheap enough
