New Series 3 owner

Sooo new, I haven't even picked it up yet! It's a 1984, 2.25 Diesel..........Please don't tell me they're rubbish! The method behind my maaadness? I'm likely to move full time to Bulgaria in a couple of years at most. The pot holes in rural Bulgarian roads would SWALLOW anything less. Bulgarian winters are proper & I need something infinitely rebuildable + suitably agricultural to be able to repair it FOREVER!

I do get to go on a fantastic road trip to get it there though......so it ain't all bad...........is it?

I shall be lurking in the Series forum for all the advice I can get!

your series 3 [if its a good un] will be the ideal vehicle for you, how do you tell well, if i gets to bulgaria in one piece its a good un! But seriously if its in good nik and you maintain it properly it will give you years of happy motoring.

alright marcus, congratulations on the purchase of a series lll. got mine 2 months ago. smokes like a trooper, but is excellent of road. taking it on a trip to north wales in 2 weeks time. just hoping it gets there. will let you know how i get on. think i'll take big bag of spanners, or join the aa. regards, monkey.

Thanks Larry & Monkey. Guess driving to Bulgaria will be the ultimate test! It does seem to have been well looked after, cared for & maintained so I'm fairly confident.

It'll get a pretty good road test just getting collected. It's in North Wales so I get to go on a mini road trip driving down through Snowdonia, stopping a night or two near Brecon, a spot of Pike fishing in the Usk resevoir then back to Bournemouth the pretty way through Somerset. All that in my own Landy, suffice to say I'm way excited!

Like you Monkey, I've joined the AA just to be on the safe side & I guess I'm a "mechanical pessimist" so always carry a bag of spanners. I used to tour around Europe & North Africa a fair bit on motorbikes & only ever seemed to get my spanners out to fix other peoples bikes! Let's hope it's the same with the Landy!

when i sold my series 111 diesel, the new owner was moving to spain to build a house...and driving the landy from edinburgh to spain as a workhorse!!! seems this form of lunacy is common amongst landy owners, enjoy

Ha ha, begs the question: Is there a small part of you that's mad, therefore you buy a Landy or do you buy a Landy and in some small part go mad?............I've only just bought it & not picked it up yet, so I guess it was just inherently there, lying dormant!

Got to say though, it'll certainly turn heads. Top one, I think it's good to drive ANYTHING that isn't a Vauxordissantroen clone car in SILVER in this day & age, and that just isn't!
