Hi all,

Picked up my new P38 2002 DHSE yesterday and have just realised the cruise control doesn't work....not a biggie, but its quite a good one and work like all bits working.

Bearing in mind I have a toolkit and no experience, any ideas/tests? Could go back to garage but a bit of a drive.

Thanks in advance.

The cruise control is all electronic on the diesel, first place I'd look is fuse box for signs of problems, then the flexible coupler behind the steering wheel, does the horn work?

I struggled with this problem for a month or two:
Get a copy of RAVE and follow the Electrical Troubleshooting for the CC. It will have you read the voltage and continuity at several points of the system.
For me, it didn't work. Everything checked out OK and I ended up replacing the Cruise Control controller, which proved useless. In the end, after I had given up, it started working when I fixed my alternator. Today I believe that the low voltage (13.7v) from the alternator was not enough for the system to work properly. Afterall, as Data said, everything's electronic in the diesel Cruise Control system.
