Hi nice car but a bit of a money pit. First it was a new tyre then the central locking broke costing over four hundred quid. Now the ignition switch has fits when the key wont turn to start the car. Need changing any ideas where I can get one from that wont break the bank:(

Just a quick up date and a big thank you to all of you who have posted your problems and how to fix it posts.

Whoever invented wd40 wants congratulating.
My back door jammed closed and I remembered someone suggesting trying wd40 before I took the door apart. Well done you, it worked a treat.
That ignition switch, fixed it with a wash out with, yep wd40.
Could do with spraying the engin, it still sounds like a bag of nails but I'll let you know how I get on . ;)

Hi guys
Just thought I would put this out for any comments or advice you could give me on a few points.
Finally found out what the rattle is on acceleration. It has been diagnosed at the front down pipe any one had that before ?
Also just had the auto box serviced oil and filter changed all well and good but when I came to the car the next morning there was a pool of gear box oil on the drive. This kept happening loosing a little oil over a week but getting smaller every time. But gear box still working ok . Any ideals where the oil leak could be.
My theory is that when the gear box is in use it build up pressure which will force oil out through the leak until until the pressure drops when it is standing.
The seal and nuts on the drain and filler plugs have been checked.
Anyone come across this.

Is this a Def or a Disco?

I don't have a Td5 but I wouldn't have thought replacing the downpipe is a big job, or maybe even remove and adjust so it doesn't rattle?

At a guess the autotrans may have been overfilled, guessing you don't have a dipstick, my Disco autotrans doesn't. But you will know all abut it if you lose all the oil, hell of a lot in that trans, if it was just a small pool I wouldn't worry too much, just keep an eye on it.

Hi Guys
Sorry it took me a long time to get back but a lots been happening.
The oil leak on the gear box turned out to be the gasket round the sump. All fixed now but still got the rattle. Think I might change the front pipe and hope it works.
Ill let you know
