Hello to all :welcome2:

I have been a big fan of Land Rover for years and whenever I have have had chance to take the wheel of any Landy, I have jumped at it. When my parents bought a '54 plate Freelander, I could not help but take the keys from them at every chance and disappear for a while to enjoy the drive and of course, try it out going across the fields at the back of my house!!.

Funds would not stretch to what they paid but I thought "sod it!! I'm having one no matter what!!" So after handing back my company car (2008 Audi A4 2.0 TDI SE), I dragged my farmer friend, who owns and maintains his 95 Discovery and 88MFG, up to look at a '99 2.0 Xe Di Station Wagon in December 2010. He did the deal and we brought her home that night.:D

Love her to bits and she has been fabulous in the ice and snow just before Christmas.:D:D

What is even better is that I have Land Ranger Services three miles away from where I live. I chose to have the Cambelt system changed, for my piece of mind, and they only charged £8 over the cheapest online parts cost. I broke the electric window by pressing up and down to clear the ice, and I won't do that again  Land Ranger again only a few £'s more than the online parts co.

My reason for recommending Land Ranger Services and their crew is due to the fact that when I booked her in and took her to have all the brake drums/discs/callipers replaced (I had a bit of a hot front wheel due to stuck calliper and I yanked the handbrake one night resulting in a little bit of stiffness in the drums), Paul advised me that they will do what is necessary to make the car safe. Any other dealership/garage would have jumped at the chance to say "you need x/y/z" and took the money. :D

Hats off to these guys and I look forward to putting another 100,00 miles on the clock driving my wonderful little Landy

Why would you buy a Gaylander then

My reason for recommending Land Ranger Services and their crew is due to the fact that I actually work for them and thought I'd get away with a very unsubtle spam session. :nospamhere::nospamhere::nospamhere::nospamhere: (Edited for accuracy)

Oh Grimmer, because I am pathetic and couldn't afford a Disco' lol

Nah, If I could have found a Discovery at the right price and the right time I would have had one. I see the Freelander as a step on the ladder. I'm a single Mom and don't need anything bigger. If funds were a bit better then I would have a Discovery 2.

To be honest, I love the battered old 'landy' that we used at the farm to check the horses etc, but that doesn't sort of look good when your an IT consultant turning up at a new client lol
:p

Oh and Grimmer, I don't work for Land Ranger!!

I work for TATA who own Land Rover !!!!!!!!!!! but don'e give staff benefits

I recommend Land Ranger because they don't go out of their way to rip off someone who they could obviously take advantage of :)

:p

Dunno what you mean I go to see my clients driving my Landy.

I like to think of it as scruffy chic :D

I still wear a suit and trust me at the end of the day most folk looked longingly during all the snow we had. ;)

Bromsgrove Defender...

I bought her just as we had fantastic thick ice/snow at home and I scared the crap out of my 9yr old by 'playing' draw doughnuts in the snow and taking her over the fields in it :D and of an office of 27, there were only 8 of us turned in, 5 by bus and 3 by Freelander lol

Grimmer....

hmmmm good back peddle and thank you for the compliment of good sense of humour - it has to be a pre-requisite when buying an old Landy for the first time :p

Have you seen the rest of the TATA built vehicles - either watch IRT Deadliest roads for the wooden framed trucks or google TATA Nano !!!

Yes erm very ....... interesting.

Sorry I must have missed something though.

What do they have to do with Freelanders apart from the obvious TATA bit.

Hmm the Freebies (my wishful thinking?) or is that short for Freelanders (me big )

Anyway, I am very thankful to all of the information that has been shared in these forums and they have helped me a lot as a new owner. - I obtained very good tips about my coolant levels dropping and I am proud to say I found, and replaced, a leaking hose. Although I did find a wonderful step by step guide of how to replace the winding mechanism for front driver window, I left that one to the experts or I could have seen myself driving round with a box of parts in the back and a plastic sheet stuck to the door

Thanks for the welcome :)

Welcome. Hope you dish the dirt on a few "problems" Tata may try to cover up in the coming years re problems/reliability issues if you remain anonymous on the forum of course.

Oh & Freelanders despite their issues are great!
