Hi Guys
New member to the forum, don't currently own a Landy but previously had a 2005 Disco 3.....covered over 250k in her and was the best vehicle I have ever owned.

I am looking at a couple of vehicle this weekend and looking for some advice from those in the know......Looking at a 2010 Range Rover Autobiography Black edition with 120k and a 2012 Westminster edition with 140k......both have similar service history (couple of gaps but nothing major) so was seeking advice on whether to go for the later higher mileage or older lower mileage......any advice on what to look for would be most welcome at this point.....thanks

you don’t say what engine in the 2010
The 2012 is it the L322 or the 405. you don’t mention a price difference.

I personally love the TDV8 with the 8speed box in our 2011. The 2012 may be the same combo but the 2010 is possible to be a different flavour.

Autobiography and Westminster is trim level and can vary hugely, depending on original owners choice of options. So you could find a “lower” model with higher spec, so check don’t be taken in by salesman talk.

Thanks Marjon, you are absolutely right, the detail of engine would help...They are both 4.4 TDV8’s and the price difference is only £1k (with the 2010 being the more expensive). My understanding is that as they both have the rising gear selection they are both 8 speed?? Both are L322 model vehicles

So, quick update:

2012 L322 4.4 TDV8 Westminster- looked at and rejected (actually done 150k miles with service gaps of a couple of years and 40k+ miles when actually reviewing the docs myself)...interior not stood up to clear heavy use so it’s a no from me!

2010 L322 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Black - deposit paid and pending a number of jobs, namely 1) Only normal height Suspension available (error message displayed) 2) Front parking sensors not working 3) rear de mist not working 4) Front heated screen not clearing across whole screen.....dealer says he’ll sort with money back deposit if not 100% satisfied......service history with 7 main dealerships stamps and 1 indie.....let’s see if the dealer is good on their word!!!

it sounds like you did your homework and checked everything

when dealer says fixed, asked what was done and check again, any warranty given?

I will definitely be asking for details of fixes and invoices for works completed.....12 month warranty with the vehicle but I will be checking to see exactly what it covers before I agree to sign on the dotted line..

Can I just look for confirmation that the 4.4 TDV8 with the rotary gear selector is the 8 speed box?

I was always on the understanding that the rotary selector was for the 8speed. Does it have paddles too?
Cos then you can see the gear numbers.

It did have paddles but forgot to use these to check the gears when on the test drive....there’s always something you forget to do on these occasions!

Progress update on the new purchase and seeking a further bit of clarification:
Independent dealer has identified
- Fault with the suspension being a failing compressor - Being replaced for new with warranty.
- Fault with the heated front screen requires a new screen to be fitted, scheduled for beginning of next week.

- No update on the front parking sensors or rear screen demist yet but at the moment I am quietly impressed that the faults seems to be being properly diagnosed and resolved rather than 'get it done quick and off the forecourt'.....maybe faint and misplaced optimism but willing to give benefit of the doubt presently!!

Now for the clarification:
- It was noted when opening the rear tailgate that on the bottom section, both sides of the latch, the paint had worn through to the metal, seemingly where the rubbers meet the bodywork....dealers tells me that this is common on the L322's and is caused by the rubbers hardening over time and damaging the paintwork through normal use..... whilst this all sounds plausible, is this common (as suggested!)?.....in fairness to the dealer he has had the area rubbed down and resprayed and said they will 'soften' the rubbers.

Can’t say I have seen any rubbing on the tailgate paint, (yet)
But as you say it does sound as if the dealer is being honest, and fixing things right.

Fingers crossed it’s being done right!!! Picture of the rubbed paintwork....hopefully you won’t encounter it!

Out of curiosity I just went and looked.

I have a very small area about 3x5mm but can also see roughing of that area on both sides, interesting so maybe it is common.
Will keep an eye on it.

Another update, still not collected the RR as during pre collection inspection a further issue was identified, an oil leak.

When discussing with the dealer he said they had noticed a little smoke from the exhaust on cold start so mentioned it to their local Landu specialists who are doing the other work. It transpires that the oil leak has damaged both turbo’s so the car is currently going through a body off job to have them replaced!

Again I can’t fault the honesty of the dealer and approach but can anyone give me any advice on other issues a leak that necessitates turbo’s being replaced might cause? Want to be well on the front foot with this one and make sure all areas are covered before the body goes back on!
