Hi All, Just a quick note to say hello. My names Peter, I live just North of Edinburgh. I have had many Land Rovers / Range Rovers over the years but currently on a Land Rover Freelander 2 2014 Dynamic SD4. Soon be time for a change! I'm looking forward to interacting with all you knowledgeable people - I know how to buy them, just not sure how to fix them!

Welcome Peter. Regrettably I am unlikely to be much help with your fix it problems, but there are many very knowledgable members out there who not only up load wonderful technical information, many with actual images of their own projects or technical repairs. Most of these are superb and far more informative than the standard, almost useless Haynes Manual.

Enjoy your membership and good luck with your new purchase.

Many thanks Alan, I look forward to interacting with your many members Peter

Welcome aboard :)

All that smoke trapped in them there electronical bits is far too modern to for me - but there are some non ludites  :D on the forum, so they should be able able to assist as required ;)

In your OP, did you mean you will be changing your 2014 FL soon ?

Many thanks. I was thinking about changing at some point this year, not quite sure what to go for. Will give myself a few months to mull it over Peter

not quite sure what to go for
Aye, this is a problem.... when the modern "vehicles" ( I use the term loosely  ) are ever more complex, and some of them are not as safe as the previous incarnation, it can all get a bit weird.

IMHO, keep what you have - looked after it should be good for serious mileage anyway...

We run D1's cos they are simple and cheap to fix - That and the fact that we need 4X4 - rather spend the money on other stuff, than have it tied up in a posh tin can :D

It may be a thought to keep it as i don't do much mileage these days and Auto is essential for me as i have a duff left leg. Its only done 19,000 miles in 3 years so should be good for a while yet. It was just annoying me because lots of minor things like this have been going wrong lately, the reverse camera broke, the sunroof jammed, electric seat motor packed in - thankfully all covered under the warranty but annoying none the less. I did look at a LR 90 Defender 50th V8 as i do go into the wilds at times but they seem to have sky rocketed lately in price, some as high as a new Discovery. Peter

19K !?!?!!? blimey !!!! - that's probably about 10% of its life - if its looked after !!

Be a good buy for someone if you sell it ( as in; you've just given a load of money away - only my opinion, but not a good idea )

Defender probably simpler, but very nickable :(:mad::mad::mad:, and depending on your build, maybe not as comfy.... but the V8 auto, is simply gorgeous:)

Had a defender years ago which was fine but a bit tiresome on a long journey as you say. Well, thanks, you have given me room for thought, maybe i am just ironing out all the niggles for someone else and would be better hanging in there with it. Well, better go and get the tissues out as Scotland about to play Ireland in the 6 nations, feeling depressed even before kick off! Thanks for your handy advice.. Peter
