Hi there,
Just recently purchased my first ever defender. It’s an 05 110 van. Need to colour match as there’s a spot of rust on the rear. It’s black but obviously unsure on which black. Does anybody know a way of finding out? Many thanks

Hello and welcome. You'd think it'd be on a plate somewhere wouldn't you. Someone here will advise I'm sure.
Problem I have is that my white 98 90 isn't the same white it was originally sprayed any more. Am going for patina instead of patchwork.. :)

Like your thinking! I’m a complete beginner here. Thought this would be the best place to ask!

Welcome:)

Have a look on the vin plate some are stamped with paint code, some also have a sticker type vin with it on usually around the front slam panel under bonnet I think.

You might get lucky.but still may not match due to age.

Have fun don’t worry to much about the odd scratch :)

Thank you for the help! I shall check for this tonight. I can deal with a few scratches here and there! I’ll get a photo and upload later on!

Oh yes, nearly forgot, we loves pics.
General rule : 'pics or it didn't happen.'
Right guys here’s a picture of the spot of rust that I’ll need to treat and paint and here’s the vin plate under the bonnet. What’s the next step to finding out which black I need?? Thanks

Paint number 697 = java black.
Just Google it buddy, even Halfords do it.
Not teaching you to suck eggs, but good prep goes a long way..

You may also want to cover the last bit of your vin number.
Some not so nice peeps can use that for not so legal reasons.
