Hi mate thank you. I had a Discovery 4 up until last year but due to a change in circumstances I couldn’t afford to keep it. It was fours years old so I wanted to keep main dealer history and that doesn’t come cheap. Things have changed again now and I would like to give the Freelander 2 a try. Looking around £8000 maximum spoke to a LR specialist who said there not a bad vehicle and not a expensive as the Disco 4 to carry out work on.

Nice to hear back from you bud. You do make a valid point regards the garage labour costs. Aren't you the diy type regarding mechanics? To be honest with you I actually prefer doing the work myself as I can live with my cock ups not keen on paying some one else's not saying they all make mistakes but does happen and then the scammer jobs. Don't get me started lol. I do 99% myself never been trained but it's a great feeling when you do the cylinder head let's say, and when you turn the key it roars into life ! You've saved how many hundreds? And the info combined on this forum is amazing. My latest job is rear windows just stopped, looked in the discovery section and there's how to do it.
Well for 8k bud you will get a decent freelander, will you be doing any mods to it ? Possibly go off road or is it a daily commuter / family car?
What ever your driving preference is enjoy.
Once again welcome to the family that is landrover
Great talking to you and if ever I can help just ask, if I don't know the answer some one here will

Im interested - do you think that the money you spend on keeping up the main dealer paper work was reflected in the sale price when you sold it?

Its a genuine question, i have no other motive for asking. : )

(my landrovers are way too old for main dealers!)

Hi Dave
I qualified as a car mechanic when I left school so I know my way around an engine but with my Disco 4 only being 4 years old I didn’t want to let the main dealer history slip. And certainly on the Disco 4 there is so much that requires specialist tools that I don’t have(I left the motor trade some 18years ago). The Freelander will be mainly a family car our plan is to buy a caravan for the summer. I dare say occasionally we will sample a little off road work silly have the car for it if your not gonna venture once in a while. Thank you again for being so welcoming, no doubt we will spk again.

Regards
Stuart

Hi Julianf
In hindsight probably not!! I have since been speaking to a LR specialist garage who are quoting prices at least half the price of the main dealer. When I traded in my Disco the question was “does it have full service history?” And when I pointed out yes it was main dealer the trader said he wasn’t worried about that just so long as it had the book stamped!costly lesson learnt and one I shall not be repeating.

Welcome to the forum

Freelander 2 is a good choice of vehicle ;)
Hi Hippo, thanks I hope I’m making the right choice, there are so many views out there, some saying they are always breaking down, others saying they are totally reliable, manuals are good auto rubbish then the next person I speak to tells me the opposite. I guess time will tell, just gotta find the right one now.
