Hi
Am new to the site and am hoping someone could please identify a recent fault that seems to have appeared on my 1.8 53 plate petrol freelander in the last week or two.

When I unlock the car with the remote, normally just the indicators flash as it unlocks/locks. NOW, there is also a high pitched beep that accompanies the flashing - but it only seems to sound on the right hand side. Same thing when I use the right indicator - but not the left one. I tried the hazards and to start with it beeped but then yesterday when I tried the hazards it didn't beep!

When I've had a trailer attached in the past I seem to remember it giving out high pitched beeps when using the indicators, but not had a trailer on for months now.

I've read through the manual and funnily enough it doesn't mention it. I've also checked all the lights and indicators seem to be working ok, and there are no lights coming up on the dash.

Any ideas would be very welcome - anything to avoid a trip to the garage!

Thank you
:tea:

if it used to happen when your trailer was connected then it sounds like the flasher relay as they are changed when towbars are fitted.

does the noise come from the interior fuse panel area (under the steering wheel)????

Hi Hollie
Thanks for responding so quick! I've just been for a listen and no, it is not from under there. It is at its loudest from the back right hand corner - inside the car by the little back interior light / storage pocket. Also pretty loud by outside rear indicator.

auhhhhh it's the buzzer for the trailer warning

there is a buzzer fitted to warn you when the trailer electrics are connected

its fitted just behind the o/s rear interior panel

i suspect the trailer socket is corroded causing the car to think it has a trailer on the back

just remove the panel to confirm it is that buzzer ( it looks like a little round speaker)

Aha, sounds like a plan, thank you. Sadly, am going to have to wait until the morning as am not going to get a chance tonight (unless I think it is a good idea to tackle it after a few drinks later!).
If it is this, is this just a case of getting new trailer eleccy socket - or will it survive if I leave it and just tolerate the hideous beeping noise...?

Thanks so much for that. I'll probably just turn the stereo up a bit for the timebeing and plan toward a new socket eventually!
Cheers
