I have a friend with a newish Range rover, he buys a extended warranty each year, I think it is about 500 pounds but be said he has not had a year when he has not had more than that back, I think a good idea when you have a chance of a problem like this, a bit late for you I know but may be for next time
The only reason I didn’t do it is because I was thinking of getting a new RR so thought oh it will be ok for a month or so. That was a stupid idea of mine and obviously regretting it now.

I think you have been very unlucky to have it break at such low mileage, but should they ever break, no, do they, yes a lot, so there is a problem so they should pay for it to be put right,

@lmhRRS you have been unfortunate. Have you communicated in writing? The reason I ask is, a few years ago I bought a quite expensive camera ( over £11k) . 4 weeks after the warranty ran out, there was an issue. I tried speaking nicely to everyone I phoned and got the right noises, but no free fix.
I then put my woes in an email and sent it off. Next phone call from them was , a good will gesture to fix for free, as just out of warranty.
Sometimes, having it in writing works.

I will definitely bare that in mind thank you. It is frustrating as the main dealer have said they will talk to JLR on my behalf but to be honest I just want to speak to them myself. I have children that need to get to school, I’ve had work meetings this week that I’ve had to cancel. I know that isn’t their problem but I feel they need to take some responsibility as a car like that should not be having catastrophic engine failure.

Moral of the story, never buy a Land Rover , if you don't have a back up vehicle ;)

It does seem to be that the engine's are not fit for purpose, one or two going ok but this many is just not right the engine's are just not designed and made right.

Just as an aside, why can't your kids get to school?

Welcome and I feel for you.
We had 2 with snapped Conrods here.
There are some tiny little very annoying things they implemented in this engine:
Much thinner wall to block Temperature gauge doesn't work, it is mapped to centre from 65 º to 110º which is a lie to the driver
No dipstick hence you don't know what your oil level or state is.
I have seen both in France and here agencies forgetting the oil all together or not topping it up properly in engines, gearboxes or axles.
Recently I told this to an elderly lady with a sport, she is a model now for even instructing another driver how to check the oil

Well they can but it is a lot harder with not having transport especially when it’s through no fault of my own

You bought a LR of your own free will ;)

We all are here to fix ours. I’m the crazy one as is my daily driver. Most others have back up cars.
One guy here has 3 P38’s - 1 to tow the trailer, one backup P38 on the trailer, another at home for if both others break down - i am not even joking o_O
Plus all 3 are diesels (the more reliable of the range)! :D:eek::D

I have a Rangie ( being restored) a Disco 2 v8 which is extremely reliable @ 280, 000 miles (yes) and a Disco 300 TDI which comes out in an emergency. It has too many holes in the floor etc.. but clearly a last resort.
I certainly wouldn't want another car. There is already another project sitting in the garden 1972 Rangie.

Thank you all for the replies! I’ll let you know the outcome.

Yer won't be able to talk fo lr direct. Claims under warranty are inspected by main dealers and they submit the claim. Claims outside of warranty follow the same method.

There is a company in Wolverhampton who offer to repair cars like this. They won't. They rob yer car and money. They use several different addresses across the uk.
