New fuel filter, now running worse. 1.8 petrol.

Rightly or wrongly, i, personally have never changed the O ring seals on the 1.8 and have had no problems. I suppose you should really.

The injectors have been on an off like a "lady of the night's" knickers. :)

The saga continues...

Broke down today on way back from getting (2nd hand) fuel pump.

Got recovered home, swapped the pumps round and the bugger still won't start.

I saw the donor car running before the pump was removed.

Any ideas? I can hear the pump running and definitely getting fuel pressure..

Take the plugs out and give em a clean off. Plugs seem to suffer when the motor fails to start on this engine.

Check the pump seal on the tank to see it is seated properly.

Maybe, unfortunately, more crap in the system.

Bugga x2!

Sorry if you already answered this but have you replaced the plugs and leads? If the plug leads were disturbed during your work they might be dodgy. Happened to me on a Fiesta where I had new leads fail because they had been pulled off the plugs a couple of times, spent loads on coil packs and plugs before changing the leads a second time.
If the engine is getting fuel then the fault must be else where.

Bit of topic But I always run my 1.8 with the top cover removed to allow a little more cooling to the leads, as long as you aren't splashing through a ford on your way home all is well:)

Thats an idea...never thought of that :)

Got my hands dirty this morning - turns out the dizzy and rotor are shot.. I've cleaned them up and it's running really well at the moment, will get a new rotor and dizzy tomorrow...

THANKS EVERYONE!!

UPDATE - after replacement (2nd hand) fuel pump and new fuel filter, injectors cleaned out and a new dizzy/rotor the engine is running like a new one! I'm sure it's now running better than it has in the 3 years that I've owned the car..
