So recently and intermittently I have been getting on the dash "Gearbox Fault" Now to me this is odd one as I've no nasty rattles or problems with gears? Once (first time it came on) I was pulling onto M6 and it slipped from top gear down then back up? and drove home fine?? And I’ve not had any problems since but now and then this message pops up?

So what are the first pointers? what to check?

I had the same "Error Message" when powering down the car EACH time I took my car from the dealer for repair, and each time they disconnected the Battery for a while. So like Datatek I believe, at least in my case, that the battery is the culprit.

Otherwise this message never happen on dash or when they look for errors

Low battery voltage is a common cause, the other one is the transfer box ECU.

Thanks - I'll pop my Ctek on the battery tonight and see if this cheers it up if not I'll have a scan through Rave and find out where the transfer box ECU lives

Your Ctek will prove nothing. Put a meter on the battery after it has stood overnight, should be around 12.5 volts, then with the engine running it should rise to 14.2 volts.
Transfer box ECU is under the passenger seat.

Ah sorry - you mean Low running voltage - not the battery is drained. I'll do this on my lunch then as my multimeter is in the boot

When I had that message my xyz switch went wrong , thats the electrical gear selector on side of box .

was it constantly on?? This is very random on mine, as I've been about a week without it happening and then it did it this morning reminding me that I've not done anything about it.
