I am looking at replacing my standard 990 head unit with an Ipod ready one with blue tooth telephone connection to the head unit so it plays through the cars speakers. My cd changer bounces but just want a single slot cd anyway, so that doesnt matter too much.

I fitted a system in my old evo with a nice pioneer headunit, but the Landy one looks like a double din sized unit will fit, is this the case, and has anyone fitted something similar? Possibly want to upgrade the speakers to and maybe add a sub in the boot.

However, I have an ES and the speakers sound ok already, does anyone know what they are, I have no audi instruction book. I dont want massive base but a good quality sounding system, I like to hear my music without sharing it with others.

Might be worth checking your UJ's. When our cd's started to bounce I thought it was the unit, but when we changed the two front UJ's the bouncing went away and hasn't returned.

Just a thought ... ;)

It may look like a double DIN but it's not! The unit just has a large faceplate, when you remove it, all will be revealed.

I've got an Alpine with direct iPod link in my Disco 1 which has a single CD. Have fitted a Connect 2 iPod link in the Disco 2 replacing the CD and then a parrot for the 'phone as I wanted to keep the original head unit. I've never missed the CD since fitting the iPod.

Where did you get your 'connect to ipod' link from, and how much was it, wouldn't mind keeping the standard head unit? Does it take the place of the CD changer unit under the seat? Maybe ill just fit the ipod connector after all my cds are on my IPOD!

Cheers for the reply lads.

Universal joints, on the propshafts. When one becomes loose, stuck, worn etc it sets up a vibration that can usually be heard, but in our case couldn't hear a thing, but the cd's used to skip and jump. Ordered a new cd unit, then checked underneath on a different problem (ARB bushes 'clonking') and noticed a distinct lack of grease, and a large amount of play in the front, front prop UJ. changed it and cancelled order of head unit ... ;)

Where else but the 'bay! It's branded Connects2 and I found it by searching for 'Discovery iPod'. The unit is about the size of a household box of matches and it tucks in behind the existing head unit with a bit of fiddling. It plugs in to the existing CD input on the back of the head, you can leave the CD changer under the seat but it won't work any more.

The steering wheel controls still work for volume and you can go up and down iPod tracks although I've not mastered playlists etc. The lead for the iPod can be fed either into the glovebox or better still, under the console and into the central cubby. I think it was about £80 but I think it was worth it to keep the original unit and controls. It's been in about five months now and no problems at all, much better than a FM transmitter unit.
