New coil , wont start

Have you tried swapping one or the plug HT leads for the one from the coil to the dizzy, that will rule out a dodgey coil HT lead. The green crap on your plugs might be staining from an antifreeze spill from ages ago. Some people who have converted to the electronic ignition module recommend keeping a spare module so that it can be swapped over when in doubt. When you replaced the coil, did you get the correct one for your module, the wrong one can eventually damage the electronics.

Ok , Thanks for advice , this is where I am with this , If I run a live wire from the coil to a bulb and another earth wire to the body then the bulb lights up , if I use the wire coming from the power spark to earth it it doesn't light up so I'm assuming it's an earthing problem with dizzy electronic set up , why after 12 months of use would it stop earthing ? Is there anyway I can bypass this ?

Not sure what you mean by using distributor earth wire...I have a powerspark on my 101 v8...has 3 wires red to oneside of coil and white to other and black to earth...where did you connect bulb earth to on dizzy? If you disconected earth but left attached to distributor and attatched bulb neg there you are not earthed if you disconected at dizzy but left connected to engine and bulb not work you have body earth problem I think...

Ok , ill try to explain a bit better (apologies) there are 2 wires to the + on coil , 1 from ignition to coil and on same terminal a red one to dizzy , other black wire from - on coil to dizzy , the + ignition is definitely live , therefore I'm assuming that if I put live wire to bulb and take black wire coming from dizzy and touch bulb then it should light up , therefore completing the circuit , live from ignition and earth from dizzy but it doesn't , im assuming the black wire to dizzy should be earthed?

Does your set up have a ballet resistor...you should have 3 wires on +side of coil...ign,starter solenoid and dizzy...your dizzy is different to mine as I have 1 wire to + on coil and 1 to - and a separate from module box on side of dizzy to earth this is a complete powerspark dizzy not a points replacement one...I have a kit for a dizzy like yours which has a red and black wire coming from the points replacement module but as far as I know that dizzy earths through dizzy body...If you have a ballast resister fitted before coil then it is a different coil you need if no ballast resister fitted

Yeah , I think the set up is correct , it has.been working correctly for 12 months , the only wires to coil are ignition and red to + and black to negative , I'm removing it this morning and putting points back in ( temp) to try to get to the bottom of it . no ballast

If you have the wrong coil, it will work OK for some time but according to Powerspark there is a risk of the electronic module becoming damaged eventually.

Agree that's what I was told when I removed ballast...new coil with dizzy can't rember but think old coil was 6v and new was different higher voltage...do you not have a wire from starter solenoid to coil that gives extra juice to coil when cranking¿? It is redundant when engine starts as you release key...is it missing or not connected?

I've just had a Landy garage look at it as a favour , power to coil , power from coil to electronic ignition but no spark , he says it's is fed electronic ignition , states I should remove and re install points to test ,now all I have to do is remember how to install points!

And condenser!...Good Luck...

Good news today , I put the points and condenser back in ( steep learning curve) and it started , it sounded like a brick in a washing machine ( timing ) but it started , I let it run for 5 seconds and shut it off . I'm not adjusting the timing to suit the points because it's set up for the electronic ignition so hopefully I'll get that exchanged and plug it all back in and all will be good , thanks all for advice

I'm sorry to keep banging on about the coil but please check that yours is suitable for electronic ignition otherwise you might end up with the same problem in a few months.

Powerspark say that a standard coil is all that you need ( as long as the minimum resistance on the primary is 1.5ohms) and 7000ohms on the secondary, so any standard Bosch or Lukas will work.
Actually they say that all of the super coils uprated for other types of electronic systems will only damage a standard Powerspark set.
Also if the voltage regulator is putting out more than 14v when the engine is running this too could damage the unit as well as power surges from, using jumper cables.

There seems to be a lot of helpful info on this subject here:

That's interesting. My alternator puts out a bit more than 14v, I'll maybe need to look at that.

Put replacement powerspark in today , along with the new coil its running better than its ever run , starts first time . I think what probably happened is that I damaged the original coil which somehow damaged the electric ignition and when I replaced the coil I assumed it was that , thanks for all your help , we got there in the end.
