Went to see a work mates series 3 1978 last night.
Checked chassis and it is solid, front dumb iron has been replaced but is a very nice neat job. All outriggers are very stong with no rot - bulkhead is mint with replaced footwells, very tidy inside.
Bit shabby on the outside but its sat for a year doing nothing, tried to fire her up last night - turns over lovely but im not getting any spark so seller is trying to sort it out today before i hand over cash.

A nice stong little find, should empty my pockets in no time :)

Does look nice and sounds to have had things done to keep it up together.
I suppose the only other thing to check is the gear box when you get it running.
Do you know why it's been stood a year?

The chap at work has owned it for 7 years and its been SORN the whole time - he used it as a tinkering project and used to take it out on top of the river bank once a week, he hasn't used it or had the time to spend any time with it the last 12months so decided to sell it to another enthusiast...me :)

I'll be checking gears etc when he gets her running, it has a fairley overdrive too. Fingers crossed it works out for me!

Who did you insure with and does that include an agreed value.
I am paying £168 for full comp but with an agreed value of £3500 and a annual mileage limit of 3000mls.
That also includes recovery which was £36.
Though Adrian Flux.

Thanks for the offer Mat, it would be good to catch up with a local
enthusiast :) I've rebuilt a defender 90 so I'm no stranger to landy mechanics... but engines and valves scare the bejesus out of me ;0)

Insurance was through flux, valuation at 2500 but not agreed, included driving other cars and green laning etc. I opted for no recovery as I'm with AA

I'm with flux as well on the defender. I took my series 3 off the road recently so i can do a proper rebuild on it.

I usually wave at series's so if you get waved at by a blue k reg fender then it might be me!

cheers guys-thinking of putting the standard 750x16's on it, would it give a better drive on cross plys as that's what the beast was designed for?

I'll keep eye out for a K reg fender, just sold my 2003 disco so I'm now cruising in a focus estate for the impending arrival of our first newborn

sorting out 34 years worth of wiring bodges
All scotch locks removed and cable repaired, she now starts on the button rather than on key release... chuffed!
