New build of ccv but which engine
Hi folks I'm thinking of building a ccv vehicle out of a discovery striping it down to the chassis then cutting a piece out of it till the wheel base is 80" then welding it back together but I'm wondering if I should get a v8 auto for instant power but may have problems with water or a td5 which I have on my defender but will that give me the power I need. If anyone's got any experience I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Jon

the ccvs iv built helped build etc have all been v8, 3.9 to be precise, alot of them are efi as the lads dont like carbs too fiddly.

you dont do much water trialling or i never have so v8 for me all the way just make sure you waterfprrof it as much as possible

I'd personally go for the td5 as it can be tuned up to 240HP so gets you the power and it can be fully waterproofed cheaply, although the cost of the engine would be greater than a V8 but that's my opinion. Also are you sure you want to go for 80 inch? Most are 88 or 86 inch which give better stability ?

Hi lads thanks for the quick response. The smaller length is for the tight turns as I'm not planning on doing comp safari or anything quick.

Just go and watch a big CCV event 98% v8 because they work best for the events, my current motor has a 3.9 efi but the new one is going to be a 4.6!! You need instant power turbos need time to spool up v8's are just there straight away personally I'd go auto change up on hill climbs then back to first for nice slow control only disadvantage is downhill!

Hi daveedwins thats what I'm thinking and like the man aid we don't do much water.thanks for the advice
