New battery and drained in an hour

I did check all the interior lights except the vanity visor one. So i was thinking whether i should try to get hold of two new relays this afternoon from the dealer and then maybe disconnect the rf receiver. What sort of drain does a rf pull? Is it possible it does not need two new relays though or should they be swapped as a matter of course.

Sory can't search too much on the site at the moment as i'm at work and only using my samsung galaxy s to access the web.

I've seen to how to measure a drain on that other thread but i only have a multimeter so i can try and use that to measure any differences.

One other thing - my hazard switch is not working - could this be linked. I did look at this last week but to repair the switch looks a right load of trouble unless you are successful with that pop it out suggestion with a feeler gauge.

Managed To get hold of two new relays this afternoon so I'll pop them in when I get home and see if the drain remains low at 0.8v, if it does I'll disconnect the rf receiver but knowing my luck it will already be disconnected. I read that the rf can draw 0.6-1amp so maybe that will sort it. Need to check the vanity bulb too.

Not fixed! - put two new relays in and within an hour they got warm with the car turned off. Voltage read 9.2v dropped from 12.3 in the same time period. Took relays out and voltage went back up to 11.3v.

According to main dealer i don't have the latest rf receiver going off my chassis number so i took the trim off and disconnected it. Fob still works ok all around the car. I did notice that the red led light on the gear knob went off after 2 1/2 mins but then came back on within a minute so something obviously woke the car up.

So it's back to the electrician tomorrow night i think. Back on charge now!

With blue wire off you just have to be closer/point fob to o/s/r to work. I had major probs with mine, all down to the RF, new unit on and (touches wood) no issues for a good few weeks since.
RF itself doen't drain but partially wakes BECM which in having a 60amp feed, will drain any battery pretty damn quick!

Get the uprated RF - £160 at Island 4x4......makes a BIG difference!

Result - mechanic has just brought my car back and the battery drain is cured although I now have no heated screen...i have not spoke to the electrician but i'm told he traced the heated screen fault back to the BECM and stopped there, because I could be getting into big money to repair what is a heated screen fault, which if that is the case i can live without it.

However, I'll take your advice if it something has been overlooked especially if there may be a relatively cheap repair possible to the BECM. I got the impression that the electrician was intimating that a new BECM might be required.

I have no other running faults and no more battery drain so its not as though the BECM is causing me problems in other areas.

What do you think? Leave it alone or consider tackling the BECM?

Heated screen is operated from the HEVAC unit which is known to give problems, I'd be looking at the outputs from the HEVAC to the BECM.

Goodfella - I had the same (or similar) issue to you - the BECM just kept getting woken up. We replaced with the latest (I think third revision of rf receiver) from main stealer (£194 ouch), but it appears to have fixed the issue. No draining of new battery any more.

The only similarity is that the battery is draining, the cause is quite obviously different if you read the thread

Not sure "cause" was ever found - sounded as though the sparky stopped at the heated screen and suggested replacing the BECM.

Only trying to help - sorry for making a suggestion :Cry:

All suggestions gratefully received. I'm lost with it now but thankfully the battery held voltage all day at 12.51 so pleased in the short term.

I'll ask Irish Rover for best course of action re the BECM, just hope i have some trouble free motoring for a while now. Just need a new hazard switch now, some rear airbags and i'm sorted.
