Needle lift sensor invalid

I assume the plastic housing is the inlet manifold as fitted to later models? I usually take that off as it only takes 5 minutes and access is so much easier.
No, it has the aluminium inlet manifold, which I took off. I shall have a look tomorrow at what exactly is in the way.

If the inlet is ally then the oil filter housing should be too, unless it has had a transplant. What year is it?
Thanks - it was made in 1998 and does not have EGR. Have fitted remaining No.2 glow plug - just needed a slender 12mm socket. From the oil marks and bits of old gasket I think three of the inlets were leaking. Last thing before putting back on is the air intake temperature sensor, which is reading 5000 ohms. I assume this is fine.

I have replaced the glowplugs, put the inlet manifold back on with new gaskets, and the same fault is still there with the needle Lift Valve Invalid. The engine misfires and won't take any power. The resistance across the Needle lift sensor is 115 ohms and the wiring seems fine. I can see a new sensor for £213 on ebay but I don't know whether this is really the problem. So now I need to learn what I have been told about timing, and the fuel system.

Needle lift sensor is injector #4. I guess you could unplug it and see what happens.

When putting inlet manifold back remember to hook the bracket at the bulkhead back on and the temperature sensor and the MAP pipe.
