Hi
I am a brit living and working in Peru. To cut a long story short I had a Mitsibushi Dakar stolen a couple of weeks ago so had to buy a new car. As you might imagine a 4x4 is essential here (although my first peruvian car was a 66 mustang convertible!!!).
I decided to go classic again and have just this evening bought a very very original 1960 series 2 short wheel base.
When I say original there are a few things that I am going to change.
Firstly is is a repainted yellow colour. What are the original colours available for a 1960?
The next major problem is the dash. The last owner built a truly horrific melamine/formica full width dash. All dials, lights switches etc are there as far as I can tell but they are just randomly in the "dash". Does anybody have a clear picture so I can rebuild it.
The exhaust is replacement and frankly is very ropey. I will get a new stainless custom built but I need to know where is runs. I seem to remember it actually runs to one side, am I correct?
Also is mounting the spare wheel on the bonnet ok for this year? I want to get a modified original look, with everything looking right, while gently improving things which need improvement.
The final issue is with window locks. As you can imagine loosing my pick up was a blow and I don't really relish loosing this one as well. What are the locks like on the sliding windows?
Everything else is original, engine, wheel running gear etc etc etc, but in a distinct change to normal peruvian cars all of the lights work!!! In Peru a taxi is something that would be scrapped 10 years ago in the UK.
It is quite hard to pick up certain parts here, but los peruanas are genius a fabrication so with the correct drawings I can get stuff built.
Serious thanks for any help you can give.... I learnt to drive in a IIa so I feel somewhat like returning to my driving roots and I do want this car to be right
