First time on and I'm right in the brown stuff

I need help to find a set of fuel lines for my TD5 discovery 2
Part number WJP108110

Yep another leak from above the tank, pulled it all out and the green line has a pin hole. Ok no problems pop off to the dealer
To my horror he cant supply as landrover has no stock!:eek::eek:
Guy is good and goes on to landrovers system and checks dealers showing stock. many phone calls later I have had no Luck.:(

Rumor has it that landrover supplier has gone bust and it will be a long time to sort out.:doh:

Any one got an idea for a fix or a spare set of pipes!

know this is a common fault with TD5's but not seen the pipes myself but how about a length of generic fuel pipe and sone fuel rated push on fittings, used to use this to replace fuel lines on other cars back when I was mechanicing, you should get these from a good autofactor or try an independant garage, we used to keep a small selection in stock for such emergencies

Thanks for the reply problem is the fittings used are push fit clips. If I could use Change the fittings at the tank out let I would make the whole lot from stainless and HP braided hose. I was thinking of trying to get the plastic from the hose fitting and get a braided line crimped on to it, This will be Mondays task unless someone can come up with a better way.

Nice day going to lok at the leaky sun roof:( North of Scotland it may rain soon:D

Here are some pictures of the Fuel line

This could be a bit of a bodge (sorry) but since it's diesel and no risk of fire,
The hoses apear to be plastic, could you maybe clean it of all diesel traces and then fill the damage with some fuel friendly filler (know some exis but can't remember the name), there wont be much pressure in there I assume as it's only the lift pump or return. you could even cut a piece of larger diameter hose and slip it over then then tape back together and pack with filler material to make a strong joint over the top of the patch,
By filler I mean some Kind of liquid epoxy/liquid metal goo. I know it sounds a bit rough but will proberbly fix the leak as it's tiny and buy you time to find a better fix or a new hose. I work on ships and I've seen us build wooden boxes round leaky pipes and then fill them with concrete to seal them again, same idea just in miniture.

Quick up date from Landrover.

We are aware of the problems and it is estimated at 16 Weeks for parts delivery.:confused:

I was in orbit they will come back with more details.

Looks like I have a big black thing stuck on my drive.

I think a bodge repair is the only answer.

Life gets better I have found a set of fuel lines after a long hard treck on the web £42 quid inc DHL should get them tomorrow. I did ask if he had any more but sorry no.
The company is Conrico International Limited they are an export company and normaly buy from Landrover and export. They have a few parts that came from cancelled orders, I have asked for a list and will post the details of what they have and contact details.

I am still working on a bodge that I will test today. :)

Bodge is up and running!

I cut the hose ends free from the old pipe and got some 8mm OD plastic pipe and tried to fit the ends gave up and bought some 10mm OD plastic (both plastic hoses are 24bar rated and petrol proof pump is 4bar)
Once fitted it I put a small hose clip at both ends, Next was getting the shape I bent a thick wire and attached that. I used some rubber hose as required to stop protection. fired it all back together, its done 50miles now with out problems.:)

You & me both mate - was on the phone to McRae & Dick last week myself!!

Pipes are on back order til September.

However, you only need the green one - part no YNI500030K which was available as a separate item a few years ago - about £10 including postage.

Unfortunately my mechanic isn't sure which pipe started spewing last month - he has fixed it temporarily so I'm away to get the green one in the hope it is just that one until the main set of 4 is back in stock.

Yes - manufacturer has gone bust - car manufacturers have screwed parts manufacturers to the floor & this is the end result - noone has spare parts in stock anymore. - who suffers - the customer as usual.

It's not just Landrover though - other car manufacturers are as guilty.

It is not a good stiuation I have an order in but 4 months is just a bit of a joke.
My bodge was on the car for a week and was going great I got new pipes old stock set and put them on but added a extra protection so I hope they will go last a bit better.

The next big thing to look at is protection for the fuel filter! what a stupid place to place it.

As of 24th July 2009, I can confirm that these fuel lines are not available from anywhere at the moment. My local LR dealer and Britpart both confirmed stories about the manufacturer of these parts going into liquidation because of the recession etc etc. They are on back order due in 21st September 2009.

That applies to both the set of four pipes (pt no. WJP108110), and also the individual green labeled pipe (pt no. YNI500030K - lift pump to engine, the one that most often goes(??))

Obviously this isn't much help, so like others the bodge is the only option. My local hydraulic/pneumatic factors was most helpful with some 8mm pipe and push type fittings. Just hope it works OK. Wouldn't mind, but this is my first Landrover and I've only had it a week!

Les Hensen has done a superb pictorial on the process of changing these pipes btw: Replacing TD5 Fuel pipes - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

Hello everyone,

I've just found that I have the same "bug"...

How does the clip-together connector on the pipe running to the engine along the chassis "undo" ? Do I squeaze the little buttons to undo it? Should it be easy? I didn't want to pull to hard.

Its easy to unclip the green end from the pump. Done that already (and put back, its -1 outside!)

Do I just pull the pipe through from the pump end...? Are there any tricks.. ?

My plan was to put some 10mm rubber tube over the leak (yes, a pin prick of a leak), glued and jubele clipped.

Now that I've read this (and that a trip to the garage is already planned for a new clutch - some @hole drove my car with his size 15's on the cluch claiming there was nowhere else to put his left foot - he's 6ft9 so nobody argues with him :) ) ... I'll make a propper pipe.

What size is the original pipe ? 10mm? 8mm? Hard to tell from under the car.

Cheers

Simon

Don't use rubber for fuel pipes. It dissolves and reappears in your carb/injectors:eek:. If it's a TD5 remember the fuel pressure is pretty high.

Its petrol-rated fuel pipe. Stuff I got when repairing my old V8 Classic/Dakar

A friend has alredy said "dont glue, just clip it" and Im booked into a LR Doctor on Monday.
Hopefully he has a better plan.

Thanks for the comment.

no real easy way of removing the pipes they can take a bit of pulling off and to do a good job you need to drop the tank you can buy rools of pipe very cheap the only problem is the fittings (getting new ones or removing the old ones)
**but the bigges thing is make sure no bits get in the fuel system try and cut pipes with a knife and tape the ends**

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the info. I've added three jubilee clips and some 10mm fuel pipe around the leak, all in-sito, removing nothing.

Before and after shots attached. I'll see what the LR Doctor sais on Monday. For the time being, no leaks.

Simon
