Becs

Well done for calling him, I would bet a pound to a pinch of pig **** he knows plenty about certain aspects of the car.

As an aside when I used to trade in Defenders I had a rule never to look at anything in the West Midlands - a rule that came about after wasting many miles looking at disguised right offs or stolen/ringed. Its like a magnet for dodgy cars/sellers and best avoided.

Hehehe - I know. I live here and we are aware of this rep! 😀

Thank you for all the latest comments and advice on this one. Had a message from someone else as well who highlighted the potential difficulties surrounding getting parts for a vehicle that has been rebuilt from a variety of different vehicles parts which, consequently, may be hard to identify. Leading on from this, there may also be potential issues insuring it as it may need to be registered as having certain modifications. In addition to this, if any bits of it were from a stolen vehicle and this was picked up, let's say for example, during an MOT, I could lose it! Sounds like I mine-field for a beginner! I guess if someone who really knew their stuff (like you guys!!) were going to view it, then maybe this little enigma could be a possibility, but even with my mechanic friend coming, it all sounds like too much hassle.

I am off to Wales for a week on Tuesday, so the search will have to be put on hold until I get back (or maybe I'll see something whilst I'm there)! However, one last 'whatcha think' until I return...

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 COUNTY STATION WAGON | eBay

It has the galv chassis and engine i want. The only thing I'm not keen on (and it's very minor and cosmetic) is that whoever resprayed it, painted over the chequer plating (which I personally think looks a bit pants). Also, the colour, although a very nice colour in itself (I once had a mini resprayed that colour) just doesn't seem to suit a Defender...or is that just me? And before you all take the **** - I am aware that everything I just said is archetypally 'girly', so come on lads, admit it, you were thinking it too! 😝

Have made am appointment to see it today at 1.30 with my mechanic friend. Any comments?

If you must have a galvanized chassis then it's a start.

Personally l'd prefer original paint so l can see what it is really like. But go and have a look....

Before going I would ask 1) What year is it. 2) Is it the original engine. 3) who built it on the new chassis. Seems odd they haven't completed the first part of the questions on the ebay description. Like how many previous owners etc.
If you check out this one on ebay you will see they have provided a little more information.

And I agree with you, I'm not that keen on the color. Good luck.

Not particularly difficult or expensive to paint a landy, if you aren't worried about concourse look. You might be able to strip the paint off the chequer plate, or replace/remove it.

I think you are right to concern yourself mainly with the condition of the chassis, bulkhead, engine and trans. That is where the real value and usefulness of the vehicle are! :)

Didn't go for either in the end. The grey one was just not worth the money and the back of the chassis where it meets the rear cross member was so rotten I could have put my fingers right through it. It did drive well to be fair but there were far to many gadgets and boys toys on it which isn't what I'm after and only bumps the price up on what is, underneath, a pretty shabby Landy.
The search continues but I am learning all the time!

Hi guys. My Dad passed away on Wednesday so my search is taking a break. Just wanted you to know so you didn't think I was being rude. Will be back soon.

Very sorry to hear that, Becs! :(
That will take precedence over landy stuff for a bit, I expect, come back to it when the dust has settled! ;)

Oh no! Really sorry to hear that, not nice no matter how it happens... :(

Wish you and your family the best, the Landy's (and us nutters) will all still be here when you're back and ready :) (Then we'll initiate you properly :p)

Take care chick!

I am really sorry to her your sad news, it hits hard when you lose someone close.
I wish you and your family well at this time.
Keep strong.

Take care Becs, and condolences to your family and his friends.
Lost my FiL and bestest friend a couple of weeks ago, and am still in shock!
See you when you get back xx
