Nearside rear indicator fault

I have done a search for this problem and found some answers to a similar problems but haven't found the solution yet so hope you don't mind me asking here. I've never had any experience with fixing things on my cars before but I really like my Freelander and I want to learn how to keep it well maintained as much as I can.

My problem is that my nearside rear indicator doesn't work at all, either while indicating, when the hazards are on or when locking the car. The front indicator and the light on the dashboard flash double speed.

I have tried replacing the bulb but it hasn't solved the problem. It looks like the connections in the holder are a little corroded though, could this be the problem? I have tried scraping off some of the corrosion but still nothing. If not could it be the relay or fuse? Are they easy to change myself? I would like to avoid taking it to the garage if possible so would appreciate any help you could give me. Forgive my lack of knowledge, I'm very new to this but as I say I want to learn.

It's a Freelander 1 I believe (X Reg), if that helps.

Get a test meter and check you're getting 12v at the bulb connector, and a good connection to earth.

Think I've found the problem, the metal connector at the bottom of the bulb holder has completely come away. Looking for a new bulb holder now, forgive my ignorance but what is the exact holder I'm looking for? Is it the double pole like this one? http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/bulb-holder-21w5-double-three-xbp100190-p-27018.html Looks like the right one to me, just want to double check as I'm a bit confused by it saying "in pillar". Just to clarify it's for the indicator in the rear bumper. Also, is there anything I need to know before I change it or is it just a case of taking the old one out and rewiring the new one? Thanks and my apologies for all the newbie type questions!

That's for the stop and tail light not the indicator.

Thank you, I have managed to find the part now (new bulb holders for both the indicator and brake light). The only problem I have now is fitting it. Again forgive my lack of knowledge here, but I can't see how to get the blue wire out of this clasp. I'm guessing there's a simple solution? Can anyone help please?

It's called a scotchlok and is a crude but functional way to T into wiring, obviously in this case for a towbar. Just pry the wire out of the slot and it can be reused, best to seal the old cut to prevent corrosion.

Thank you. Is there a better alternative to the scotchlok, I've read they aren't very reliable? V-splicing with insulation tape for example?

You need a physical joint, solder best, scotchlok is fine if you can avoid moisture ingress
