Nearside rear ( was in title mate) rubber cap missing half shaft comes out? Don't think it should do that what could be the problem?

Cheers
Steve

If you mean the circlip on the end of the shaft then the answer is yes it's still on there, you can just pull the halfshaft out easy by hand?

Now had a better look at this and the halfshaft is actually coming through the driving member:eek: I guess the drive member is so worn this is letting the halfshaft pass through it, guess this should not happen?

Indeed not - they sound pretty worn

Might be worth replacing the Drive Members as well as they too could have worn

Will be changing drivemembers and will have a look at the driveshaft for the shoulder you mention.

Thanks for the reply's Fellas

Just had the same problem on my second day of owning the landy. Did that fix the problem? i know this topic is from 2012 but any help would be greatly appreciated.

The splines on the shaft should not be able to come out through the drive flange.

If you look at it logically, the circlip is there to prevent the shaft from going too far into the axle tube ... it doesn't stop it from coming out!

As far as the cap is concerned, I always fill mine with greas as that helps to lubricate the spline as it moves in the flange.

It sounds as though you really ought to renew both the flange and shafts on both sides. I would also replace the circlips and caps as well.

An easy job that should only take about 10 minutes each side.
