Hi folks,
Some may remember my diff post before Christmas others may not, but blew my front diff so ended up replacing the full axle.

A week or 2 later, the thing started banging when braking, just a quick loud bang. Does it forward or reverse, but doesn't seem as loud in reverse. Perhaps speed has something to do with it.
If I'm very careful and ease on the brakes it doesn't bang.

Changed the hub today because the wheel bearing that came with the axle turned out to be foo barred thought that may have played a part with the play in it but has made no difference but I had my doubts it would to be honest.

Any suggestions for what to check?
I'm hoping to get it on a ramp with all 4 wheels off the ground and test it that way but not sure when I can do that.

Thanks in advance

The noise, (bang), could be the diff housing to front suspension radius arms rubber bushes flogged out or the bolts loose that secure the bushes in the cheek plates on the front diff/axle housing. Whilst braking the diff housing tries to rotate opposite to what it does when driving, slack will cause hard contact between the link points
To check for excess movement cimb under the car and use a pinch bar or suitable lever between the axle housing and each of the radius arms, left and right, at their attachment point to the axle housing.
I have seen this same problem with a mates County 110 Wagon front axle, new rubber bushes cured the problem..

Thanks for that, not had chance to get under but got that many knocks bangs and rattles now and some odd handling traits I'm going to just renew all bushes and suspension components. When I changed the axle I noticed my front shockers weren't in the best of states anyway so decided if I replace it all there'll be no issues hopefully.

Is the bang when you brake ?
Had the same problem with my Audi - turned out to be the front brake pads which hadn't seated correctly. May be worth checking that off the list first.
Another is the drop links can loosen and clunk.

Problem solved, went under and had a wiggle and a feel and realised one of the brake carriers had worked loose. Should have noticed this before but reckoned to check. DOH!
Cheap fix though so thats one thing.
Panhard rod was a little loose also but not major, took it up the road and all seemed well.

Thanks everybody for your help once again!
