I have a much loved and very well looked-after Discovery II TD5 ES which I bought new in 2000. I always get my local trusted and brilliant mechanic to use the best/original parts when doing any job on her - no expense spared on my beloved Disco! - but I am being driven mad with the constant illumination of the '3 amigos'.
This has been driving me mad for more than 3 years now but there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when they come on. They are never illuminated when the engine starts but can come on anytime between a couple of minutes after starting off to never coming on at all. I sometimes am light-free for a couple of months but at others they come on a couple of times a day, only extinguishing when I turn the engine off. They show no pattern of when they are going to 'ping' into life.
For example, last week I went over to France for the day and did a total of 600 miles in 30 hours - virtually all fast motorway driving and the lights were on virtually the whole time - always coming on within a couple of minutes of starting the engine. Since I returned to my home in wild west Wales I have only had them come on once in 10 days and then I was just doing about 40 mph on a country road.
I abandoned my 'local' LR dealer two years ago after paying him several hundreds (even thousands) of £'s to solve the problem which he never did!! His dealership has since disappeared - surprise, surprise! And for the last 2 years I have used a very competent local mechanic who, unfortunately, does not have a diagnostic device suitable for my TD5 engine. He uses a Roacom(??). He has done much major mechanical work on 'her' and I am well pleased with his work but 'the 3 amigos' are a different matter. Hence, I am thinking of buying a Nanocom device for him to use.
The question is WHAT do I need to know before investing in the device and WHERE do I get one from - best price/help to buy?
In anticipation of some helpful and useful advice from people who are 'in the know', a big thankyou.
