Hi all, just taken delivery of my Nanocom and I have a couple of questions that I thought someone who has one already, might be able to help with.

Firstly, my EKA box in the alarm section is empty - do I need to get it from the stealer or can I read it from the car and input it myself or can I just write one and it will update the BECM with whatever I wrote?

Same query with the key fob boxes - all currently empty. I do have an immobilisation code showing on the page.

Secondly, I have a 97 RR so I have the middle version of airbag - unfortunately the unit doesn't want to communicate with the airbag ECU - I have tried all three just in case with no luck. Doubly frustrating as the only fault I have is an Airbag one !!

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

PS if anyone has a P38 Gems in the Chepstow / Newport area and wants to have a plug-in, PM me.

As far as I'm aware, unless the BECM is unlocked, you cannot put the EKA code into the BECM, it's fixed, of course you can enter the EKA code to match the fixed one via the Nanocom rather than doing it via the key. However the BECM can be set so that no code is needed and the alarm and immobiliser can be disabled. Never done it myself so not sure how it's done.
If you have an SRS airbag faulty and the Nanocom will not talk to the ECU, I would suspect a duff SRS ECU unless you do not have the correct unlock codes for that sofware module.

Never ever disable your EKA function. Disabling it doesn't stop the Keycode Lockout from appearing on the dash, & by having the EKA active at least gives you the chance of recovering yourself from what would be an otherwise complete dead vehicle.
Battery drain & dodgy electrics is the biggest cause of Keycode Lockout.

The reason as to why you can't read the EKA code or fob codes is because your becm is diagnosticaly locked. The difference between a locked becm & unlocked becm is the ability to read these two codes.

Ok Thanks. I think I have the unlock codes as all other functions seem to be fine. I guess I will be going to LR tomorrow with my docs !
I will keep playing - faulty airbag ECU might be the original problem and then the non-read issue on top ! Typical !!

Some teritories run with no EKA do they not?

Aah, thanks, that explains some of it. I am guessing, I may still have my original BECM then, as I think I am right in saying the replacement ones came unlocked ? Hopefully my original EKA code will still be current - is there any way of checking it, once I have it from LR ?

New Becm's are supplied Unlocked. When they are programmed by the dealers using Test Book/T4 their software automatically Locks them. You would need to get the Becm unlocked by someone who has the specialised software..e.g. Rick the Pick.
There is data in the Becm which, if changed can render the car immobilised if changed without experience.
The Main Stealer will give you the EKA code and the Lockset Bar Code**.

**The Lockset code is completely different to the FOB code stored in the Becm. When the Lockset code is entered into Test Book/T4 it "Converts" it into a 3 part unique code called the FOB code. The Lockset code is usually 13-14 digits long say A1234567898765 and the FOB code could be 076 543 567...the numbers I have given are an example and in reality are not a true conversion.

Keith, They do indeed. Lots of countries have the EKA off, but it doesn't stop them from faulting to Keycode Lockout though. It was a money making scheme for the main dealers in these said countries.

So, if the EKA option is disabled with a nanocom and you get the keycode lockout message, how is it fixed?
Also, won't disabling the immobiliser prevent the keycode error from popping up?

Ok, been through the car with all the Nanocom menus - all good at the moment - HEVAC has some issues, but that would be because I have disconnected half of it !!
No faults anywhere else apart from my earlier mentioned airbag issue. So, my next question is - where is the airbag ECU on a 97 4.6 ?
Once I have popped that little sucker out and replaced it, I can give it another go....................

Thanks for any replies - as always.

DCU is under the back of the centre console. Follow instructions in RAVE if you are going to play with that. Or you may get several large bangs and a lot of smoke.
