n/a with turbo

hi all, ive recently purchaces a 1983 defender hi cap. Motor i assumed was a 2.5 na, but it has some sort of possibly aftermarket turbo lash up fitted, Garret/ TB turbo are the names i can see, help!
answers on a post card.

19j engines use garret turbo and are not intercooled

Your description sounds like a standard 19J to me which is basically a 2.5 N/A with a turbo attached without the benefit of an intercooler. Do a google for some pics and you should be able to see if it matches yours.

according to the engine number its a12j, with a turbo ?
