Hi,

Can anyone identify this resistor which I found, as you can see close to the air-filter box and the EAS air dryer? It has a black and yellow wire coming out at the front (towards the bumper) and black at the back (towards passenger cabin).

I've been having trouble with the ac and suspect its literally a bad connection or damaged wire. I can get the compressor to engage with a direct short to battery. I can also get it to engage with a direct connection to the three way pressure switch. Now I've also established that the HEVAC ECU is sending a signal as far as the connector under the trim near the fuel cut-out and bonnet release so I guess there's a break between this connector and the 3 way pressure switch. Before I run another wire and bypass that bit I just wanted to know if there is anything else along the path? Like this resistor? And what does it do?

Cheers!

ps. before any of you tells me to clean my car please be informed that brown coating is a high tech polymer called G.R.I.M.E and it holds it all together! :D

Diesel? The resistor looks like a bodge perhaps for hot start problems? I'll have a look at mine later but don't remember seeing that resistor. I've had trouble with broken wires in the aircon loom from the three way switch where the loom passes over the chassis member by the RAD.

Quite likely a bodge to be honest. I couldn't find this resistor (if that's what it is in) rave and even trying to identify all the black and yellow wires hasn't revealed much. The car's been main dealer serviced all its life until I got so dissatisfied that I started doing more and more at home. You would not believe the number of shortcuts and bodges I've uncovered (and gradually set right).

Thanks for the tip on where to look for the break. I take it then that there shouldn't be any other component on the way from the white connector (in the footwell) to the three way switch? Reckon its safe to run another wire in parallel and splice it in?

Oh and its a V8.

Ah, I know bugger all about the V8. The broken wire on mine went from the tristate switch to one of the condensor fan relays in the underbonnet fusebox.
Just a thought, that resistor could be some sort of aftermarket dim dip for daylight running or HID conversion?
